Let the Party Begin

Elaine's POV

I always knew how to fade into the back ,naturally the universe would project me in an academic space to shine bright yet ,my instincts knew better than to shine for long .I have always been scared of shining bright and becoming too good at whatever i touched, especially beyond the academic space . Forget space and time, I'm Elaine Walker and just like you I've made a fall from grace. I made my first real boyfriend-girlfriend debut after high school with the calmest, sweetest and handsome ex-boyfriend of my best friend. I know how that sounds but it's entirely not how it looks. As a treasure hunter, I saw value where many did not.

"El",

Maddison screamed from behind me as i run out of the examination room. The three-year journey was over and I was more excited than ever to dive into sweet adulthood, or so I thought. It's over, I kept reiterating to myself as I turned to approach the already frowning Maddy.

"I'm so sorry Maddy, but drop the act high school is over"

"What act?" The growing anger evident in her voice. I knew I had to stop talking before she hit me but I was on a roll."

"The holier-than-thou act", I said subtly trying not to sound offensive. I knew better than to step on her toes, yet fools rush in.

"Whatever El, let's just go get our stuff and leave .My dad is in".

Maddy and I became close since we were cast out of the social system and conformed not to the unspoken yet complied standards of living set at St. Catherine's High. Maddy became family and her' s mine because I had a single mother who catered for two other children from waitressing .Her work made it difficult to show up at school event's like other parents but I knew and understood how my family's survival depended so much on her so i never made a fuss. I practically became a part of Maddy's as from parent-teacher conferences to family fairs, her parents always made sure I never felt left out.

"Mr. Peters" ,I took his stretched out arm and allowed him to pull me into a hug.I sometimes wished Maddy's dad was really mine ,guess the universe had other plans.

"Stop spectating Maddy ,join us", Mr . Peters called out to blank-faced Maddy as he made room for her.

"Congratulations to the world's prettiest girls." He plants a kiss each on our foreheads and patted our bags. "Let me get your bags as you girls settle into the car so we get out of here .Heaven knows how much you've been aching to be done with high school." He lets a chuckle out after and proceeds to get our belongings as Maddy and I put Happy by Pharrell Williams on in the car and roll the windows up to let the party begin.
