My name is Lia. Cute name, right? I love my name, my mom gave it to me, her little girl. But im not so little anymore. Im turning 16 next week, and I can't wait to party with my friends! "Hey, Dad! Can you drive me to school?" I asked him a bit too excited for a teen to go to school. My smile was bright, and he returned it. "Of course, give me a moment. I need to grab the keys." With that, he put the newspaper on the coffee table and stood up. My mom entered the kitchen and kissed him goodbye. "Study hard, Lia!" She smiled and gissed my forehead before she left in a hurry.. she was always late for work, which was kind of funny to see. A moment later, my dad came back into the kitchen. "Are you ready-" I didn't even let him finish speaking before I jumped up and pulled my favorite black boots over my cute cat themed socks and pulled on my winter jacket. "Let's go!" I was about to jump kick the door before my dad spoke. "Didn't you forget something?" I stopped in my tracks and turned towards him. He held my bag and lunch. "Ohh, right." I took them and then ran iut the door, nearly slipping on the ice as I jumped into the car. "Open the dooor!!!" I complained and tried to open the still locked car door until I heard the familiar click of the door. I pulled it open and sat down with my bag and lunch on my lap. I slightly jumped in my seat as I waited for my slow dad to get in and start driving. "Seatbelt." He said after he finally entered and started the car. He was always so positive and safe in the car, which is why I loved to drive around with him. I pulled the seatbelt over my body and clicked it into the small lock on my side, then I started the radio but quickly changed to our own playlist of songs.
After arriving at school he gave me a kiss to the forehead and I jumped out of the car, closing the door behind me and dunning over to my friend Carol who was already waiting at the school gate with her cute pink hello kitty bag over her shoulder. I held my bag in one hand and my lunch in the other as I sprinted to her. "Carol!" I called her name as I jumped into her arms. "Hey Lia." She smiled and returned the hug. Together, we walked into the school building and towards our first class, which was history. The teacher was boring, and it felt like it took years for it to end, so I started writing funny messages to Carol, who sat in front of me. She would hold back her laugh and a swer with an even stupider message. We had a few close calls, but our teacher was more focused on soeaking his heart out than us two goofing around in the back of class. After the lesson finally ended, we went outside to our favorite spot under the willow tree in the far back of the school yard. We ate our lunch and planned for our hang out plans for the week. When the bell rang, we raced to our next lesson, which almost got us attention, but we managed to quickly escape and make it to our math class in time before the teacher arrived. We returned to our seats and talked until the teacher came and started the lesson. At some point, the lesson stopped for a bit since the principal entered, and our teacher gave us work while he left the classroom. Some of the students tried to do the work while others went back to talking. "Her Carol.. why do you think the principal is here?" I asked her and leaned over my desk. "Dunno, maybe some students got in trouble?" She answered. "You think so? Hopefully, not us for running in the halls earlier..." That wouldn't be good... we speculated a bit more about the reason why the principal needed our teacher until the door opened.. somethinf was wrong.. they both seemed off with a slight frown. My teacher made eye contact with me, which sent a shiver down my back. "Lia... please pack your things." Wait, what? Am I getting suspended? Or did I get involved with something? I slowly pacjed my bags and tried to ignore the stares of my classmates. I glanced at Carol before standing up and walking to the door.
Once outside, the principal and my teacher stood there. They clearly had something to say but didn't know how to. "Lia your..." The teaxher started, but the principal stopped him with a hand on his shoulder. "Your father is waiting in front of the school..." he said in a somewhat sad tone. "Okay?... am I in trouble or?..." i asked... something was off... and I didn't really want to know what, knowing that it probably wasn't the best of things. "No, you're not just... you should go to him now." The principal said in an even worse tone. "Okay..." I slightly whispered out as I turned and walked towards the school doors... The feeling in my chest got worse and worse, i know this feeling of anxiety, the tight feeling in my chest, the sweat running down my forehead and back... I swallowed a lump that started building in my throat as I opened the door and went to look for my fathers car. When I saw him I almost broke... he had been crying. "D..dad?" I said once I got closer. "Lia, you... your mom, she..." He held me tightly to his chest. No... no, no, no... She can't be right? "D..dad.. you are scaring me.. what's with mom.." I was scared to ask... I think I already know what happened. "She had a car accident... im so sorry, Lia... she's gone.." he held me tighter. The world around me seemed to stop no noises around us, not the cold winter air on my face... nothing was there but a deep emptiness in my heart. "N...no.." I mumbled out before I started crying into my fathers chest. I wanted to scream my pain out, and I did.. I screamed and cried into my dads chest. "N..no..."
