Before Klara could tie her shoes, she understood that the world didn't hand out wages to people, even the ones who most deserved it. Perhaps that's why she would watch her mother torn between the fact that she had finally chosen herself and bought a new pair of shoes to replace the old ones with holes instead of buying her brother a new winter jacket.
Before Klara could tie her shoes, she had learned that the world doesn't ever stop spinning, moving constantly in a void of blank space and it won't waste a second on the misfortunes of the people within that world. It certainly didn't when her parents were killed, leaving her and her siblings to scavenge for themselves on the streets of a war-torn country.
Before Klara could tie her shoes, she had mastered the idea that understanding the world was a virtue, whilst being understood was a burden she could never carry. Yet, no amount of wisdom could quiet the aching void within her-the unspoken hunger to be truly heard in a world that only taught her to listen.
