Why do I keep going back to when we shared our time together, Wendy thought as she got ready for the day. Her thoughts have been occupied by a certain black-haired girl for the past two days. Wendy still hadn't texted Irene about their meet up and neither did Irene. Was Irene already uninterested in her? She didn't really know what to think.
Today was Wendy's day off so after overthinking about the whole situation, and wasting about half the day already, she ultimately decided to push through with a meet up.
Hey, I'm sorry for the late text. Are you free today?
Wendy's heart was pounding. She didn't know why but waiting for the older girl's response after ghosting her for two days made her own heart beat out of her chest. It didn't help that the three dots were appearing and reappearing like some sort of groundhog-on-Groundhog Day. The reply finally came after what felt like hours. She had overreacted, it was only one minute.
Yea I'm free in about an hour
Where to?She froze, cursing at herself. She didn't think that far ahead. What was she supposed to reply now? Wendy murmured to herself, "Coffee shop? No, we went there already. Museum? No, we literally saw each other there the first time. Park?? Ugh, why is this so hard..." Her face was buried into the palm of her hand in frustration. The sound of her phone's notification lured her away from her never-ending words.
Park? I've been sitting around all day
Wouldn't mind a little walk in the parkWendy calmed down after a few more messages were exchanged. She didn't know why she had worried about how Irene would respond. Although it has been a couple years since they had seen each other, she didn't really know what to expect from the older woman.
After more words were said, they had settled on meeting up at the park outside of Irene's workplace. She had 30 minutes to prepare herself for the meet up. Her question from two days ago still lingering in her mind after their conversation. She tried shaking the thought away as she prepared herself for the rest of the day ahead.
The 30 minutes flew by, and it was already time for their meet up. Wendy was a nervous wreck waiting for the girl at one of the benches. Her eyes flickered from her phone to the environment in front of her.
She sighed, catching herself acting like a teenager anxiously waiting for their crush after school. She's a grown woman; she shouldn't be this nervous meeting her ex after a year or two of no contact. Especially since she doesn't have any feelings for her anymore.
Before she knew it, a finger tapped her shoulder. She jumped a little, seeing the figure that had taken her attention away from her thoughts.
She came.
"Irene.." Just like the first time, her breath was taken by the beauty of the girl in front of her.
Irene was bent at the waist leaning her weight, slightly, towards Wendy. The way her hair fell in front of her, made Wendy's stomach do somersaults. Butterflies flew around her stomach trying to escape their containment.
Irene's voice finally cut through Wendy's trance, "Earth to Wendy?" She had an eyebrow raised and an amused grin on her lips.
She shook her head and smiled nervously at the older girl, "Hi."
"Did I scare you?" Irene kept the small smirk on her lips as she sat beside the younger girl.
An awkward laugh later, and it was like Wendy's worries were for naught. Their conversation felt... normal. It didn't have the awkwardness that she anticipated, or the stammering she thought was gonna accompany the awkwardness. It was almost as though they had never parted ways. Irene's hand naturally covered her lips in a shy chuckle as they talked and talked.
