Kat kissed him again, her lips lingering on his, but Bryant pulled back, shaking his head. "No, Kat," he said firmly, his eyes filled with a mix of frustration and sadness. She looked at him, confusion and hurt etched on her face. "What?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "I can't," he said, his voice breaking slightly. Without waiting for her response, he turned and walked out of the bathroom, each step feeling like a weight was being lifted off his shoulders but also leaving a hollow ache in his chest. He could hear her soft sobs as he closed the door behind him, the sound echoing in the small space. As he walked down the hallway, he tried to push the image of her tear-streaked face out of his mind, but it clung to him, a painful reminder of the moment they had just shared.

Kat called her mom to come get her, her voice shaky as she explained the situation. She needed to get away, to clear her head. After hanging up, she walked outside and sat on the front steps, the cool night air hitting her face. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to find some comfort in the silence. The stars above seemed indifferent to her turmoil, twinkling calmly as if nothing had changed. She could still feel the warmth of Bryant's kiss on her lips, a stark contrast to the cold reality she now faced. As she waited, she couldn't help but replay the conversation in her mind, wondering if she had made the right choice. The sound of an approaching car broke her reverie, and she saw the familiar headlights of her mom's car pulling up. She took a deep breath, stood up, and walked towards the car, hoping that some distance might help her make sense of the emotions swirling inside her.
