Jimin is sitting in his bedroom on the edge of his bed as he scrolls through the multiple messages on his phone.
He had been receiving messages all day from his friends and classmates, pertaining to his brother accepting a gift from the poor guy, and he was curious about it.
Not mad, just curious.
He was intrigued to know what a poor person could give to someone who has everything, that it made Jungkook, who never accepted gifts from others who were not his family, take it.
Running his hand through his hair, he decides to just text the younger, asking him to come to his room immediately.
And just like typical Jungkook, he complains before he complies, barging into Jimin's room not even 5 minutes later. He wore an annoyed expression, standing there dressed in his silk bathrobe, rubber duckie bath slippers, a see-through shower cap, and a backscrub in hand. His hair was still dripping wet, it seems he just got out of the bath.
"What is it? I was busy." He questions, leaning against the wooden doorframe.
The older chuckles at the sight of him, clasping a hand over his mouth as he tries not to break down in a fit of laughter. "You look cartoonishly stupid."
Jungkook sighs dramatically at his brother's words, rolling his eyes as he begins to point the back scrubber in his direction. "I don't have time for this, I have to get ready for my birthday dinner. Make it quick."
Jimin chuckles again just for a little while before he decides to get a little serious when he saw Jungkook looked ready to leave.
"Alright, alright. Stop whining, I'm serious now." He starts to clear his throat as he watches Jungkook tap his foot impatiently. "I've heard from my friends that you accepted a gift from the commoner."
"Ahh, Jimin, not now." The younger throws up his arms in exasperation. He knew where this was going, and he wasn't up for it. He didn't feel like listening to one of Jimin's lectures tonight.
Or at least he thought he knew.
Crossing his right leg over the other, Jimin raises both hands up in defense. "Hey, I was just curious to know what he got you."
Jungkook scans over the features of the other, slowly lowering his arms. He wanted to see if Jimin was serious about his question, and he honestly looked genuine enough. "..Why?" He asks, confused.
Jimin looks down for a moment, raising his hand and tapping his index finger against his chin in a thinking manner. He wanted to piece together a proper sentence before he asked because he knew Jungkook would just leave if what he said sounded insulting to Yoongi.
"I just wanted to know what someone who isn't as.... fortunate as us could give you that it broke your streak of not accepting gifts?" The older questions slowly, raising his head and dropping his arm when he was finished.
"Hmm." Jungkook ponders if he should actually answer his question, Jimin didn't take too well to Yoongi, and he always had something rude to say about him. He's quiet for a few seconds before he chooses to answer him. If he started up about Yoongi, he could always just leave. "A cupcake from the convenience store and a carton of banana milk."
Jimin stares at him quietly for a few moments, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion and his lips parting in shock. "You're kidding, right?"
"No? Why would I joke about that?"
"You broke your streak for that!?" He yells bewildered. "But you hate store bought cake!" He points an accusing finger at the younger, dropping his arm when the other begins laughing at him.
Like, full belly laughing, he was doubled over.
"What? What's so funny?"
He heaves and hos, catching his breath slowly in between laughter fits. He eventually calms down enough to speak, walking further into Jimin's huge room.
"This is what I meant before about you not having any real friends." Jungkook chuckles. "It's not about what the gift is. It's about who the gift is from."
Jimin tilts his head, uncrossing his legs. "Huh?"
The younger stops his steps in front of his brother, rolling his eyes at the man. "Compared to the others, Yoongi is really genuine and sweet. I know he doesn't want anything out of it, and the gift came from the heart. Even though he couldn't afford much, he took into consideration what I liked. I like chocolate so he got me a chocolate cupcake and my favorite drink."
"Plus, I like him." He continues, gushing shyly. He gains an odd look from his brother, making the younger awkwardly clear his throat and scratch the back of his head. "Well, yeah... that's all."
Jimin hums in response, leaning back a bit, resting his weight on the palms of his hand. He seemed deep in thought, not saying anything further as his brother just stood there.
Jungkook bore his eyes into him for a few moments, confused by the sudden silence of the older. He was about to take his leave, assuming the conversation was done there but just as he was about to leave, his eyes landed on a phone box on his brother's bed side table, along with what seemed to be a folded note.
He stops in his tracks. "What's wrong with your phone?" He questions, reaching out towards the box.
Before his fingers even has the chance to graze said box, Jimin is up on his feet, smacking his hand as he pulls it back with a yelp.
"Ow, what the fuck was that for?" Jungkook curses, stepping back from his brother while rubbing his now pained hands.
He doesn't receive an answer though, the other swiftly putting away the box and note in the draw that came with the table, shutting it and turning to his brother. He looked a bit panicked.
"Why are you being so protective of your phone?" Jungkook wonders, puzzled at the sudden actions of his brother. He stood in front of the drawer as if he were guarding it.
Jimin ignores his question, leaning on the edge of the bedside table with his arms folded over his chest. "Shouldn't you be getting ready?" His expression was deadpanned, completely different to how he looked a second ago.
"Yeah, but–"
"Then leave, get out of my room." Jimin waves a dismissive hand at him, contorting his face into one of annoyance. But when the younger doesn't budge, he begins lightly shoving him towards the door. "Out, out , out!"
"Hey– what– okay!" Jungkook screams, grabbing Jimin's wrists. "I'll leave, damn!" He says in a huff, spinning on his heals and leaving the room. Shutting the door on his way out.
As soon as his door clicks shut, Jimin breathes out a breath of relief, sighing before he flops back down on his bed. He's on his back, staring up at his white ceiling as he ponders in thought.
He doesn't even know why he hid it, he could've just told Jungkook what it was for. It wasn't like he had anything to hide.
But maybe it was a bit of embarrassment.
Embarrassment from Yoongi not accepting his gift? Embarrassment from even buying it in the first place? Or maybe it was embarrassment for feeling good about himself when he first bought it?
He wasn't sure.
Jimin sighs as he sits up on his bed, looking over at the drawer the items are in. He recalls his brother's words from earlier as he stares at the spot, exhaling as he stands up.
He turns in the direction of his door, hands finding themselves sliding into his pants pockets as he begins to walk that way.
His steps come to a halt in the middle of the room. He raises one hand up to the back of his neck, rubbing at it irritated. He looks back at his bedside table, sighing yet again.
Maybe he was going about everything wrong.
