A/N: creds to autsbat for the ending of this chapter.
As the week went on, Charlotte's mind continued to wander to Lucy. She made up all these fake scenarios in her mind about her, some good, and some bad. She saw how upset Lily was about her and it just made the brunette wonder. Luckily for her, the nursery was short staffed for the week and it allowed her mind to be preoccupied by something other than her ex husband's new girlfriend. Or so she thought.
As she entered the baby room for the day, Charlotte came to a stand still when she saw who she was working with. The tall brunette deputy looked over to the door and smirked when she saw Charlotte. "Seems like you just can't escape me." Autumn chirped as she walked towards Charlotte slowly. "W-where's Carly? I thought I was with her today." Charlotte stuttered as she stared into Autumn deep blue eyes.
"Carly's been moved to the toddler room for the rest of the week. That means you're stuck with me for the next few days." Autumn whispered, as she leaned into Charlottes space, making the brunette turn bright red. "Do you have a problem with me working here Charlotte?" Autumn asked, narrowing her eyes and smirking at her. "No, no, not at all." Charlotte responded, clearing her throat and walking over to get the breakfast all ready for the kids.
While she set up the breakfast table, Autumn focused on doing handover with the various parents. Charlotte kept glancing up to the brunette, here eyes roaming over her body. She got lost staring at the way her trousers hugged her curves perfectly, the way her fitted black shirt was unbuttoned just enough that Charlotte could see her red lace bra if she was looking from a certain angle. She love the way her red braces matched her bra perfectly.
The brunette didn't realize she was staring until Autumn turned to her, "Are you going to actually serve breakfast or just stand and stare." Autumn said, sounding irritated but she secretly loved the reaction she was getting from the brunette. Charlotte immediately broke her stare nearly knocking the breakfast cart over as she tried to regain composure. "Hm what? Sorry." The brunette scrambled to say as she served up breakfast for each baby. Autumn raised an eyebrow as she stood there just watching her work.
Her own eyes began to wander all over the small brunettes body. She found her to be angelic almost. But as she looked closer, she noticed how pale her skin was, the prominent bags under her eyes that she tried to hide with her makeup. She looked thinner than she was just a few weeks before. Something wasn't right with the brunette and Autumn suddenly felt herself wanting to find out what it was.
As the day went on both women focused on their groups, the tension in the room dying down a bit which was nice for Charlotte. She could hardly focus let alone try and focus with Autumn so close to her all day long. As they reached the end of the day both women took care of the handovers together, while Autumn was passing a message along to a young mother about how her baby adjusted to the day she couldn't help but overhear the conversation happening next to her.
"So Charlotte I saw your husband at the bar the other night." The mid thirties man said as he began looking the brunette up and down. "Oh did you that's nice." Charlotte said trying to keep it together. "Yeah but he was with some blonde woman. I went and spoke to him and he told me you two are separated? Is that true?" He asked curiously making Charlottes eyes go wide, she could practically feel Autumns eyes staring her down to her right.
"Oh um..." Charlotte paused holding back tears that threatened to fall as she began to fidget with her wedding ring. Before the brunette could respond she was cut off by Autumn stepping in front of her quickly. "Please enlighten me on why any of this is your business." Autumn angrily butted in, her tone even sending chills down Charlottes spine. "I was just making conversation, if you don't mind letting us get back to that." The man replied, gesturing between himself and Charlotte who had hidden herself behind Autumn.
The brunette felt a few tears fall down her face realizing her secret was out and people knew. It wouldn't be long till news got around to her coworkers, and she wasn't sure she was ready to talk with them about it. "I'll give you 3 seconds to take Paul and leave before I drag you out by the scruff of your neck. If I ever hear you speaking about anyones personal business again trust me, this won't be a threat but it will be a promise." Autumn said harshly making the man cower before her. He swiftly left without another word and thankfully, he was the last parent of the day.
Charlottes eyes were wide as she listened to Autumn defend her so quickly. She wasn't sure what to do so she just awkwardly started cleaning up the room in silence. Autumn turned to check on Charlotte only to find her aimlessly walking around the room cleaning. The brunette decided to let her calm down before she spoke to her, she worked quickly on wiping down the tables and cleaning the floors.
Once the room was immaculately clean, Autumn turned to find Charlotte digging through her bag that was hung up by the closed door. The brunette approached her slowly and Charlotte turned to face her. She had her back flush against the door as the two women just stared at one another. "Thank you. For defending me." Charlotte said quietly with a small smile on her face. Autumn took a moment, "How long?" The brunette asked curiously. "What?" Charlotte asked nervously.
"How long have you been separated." Autumn asked again making Charlotte swallow hard, "A few months but he moved out long before that." Charlotte confessed. Autumn stared at the broken woman before her, she moved closer placing one hand above Charlottes head keeping her trapped against the door. Autumn gripped Charlottes chin and pulled her head forcing her to look at her.
Charlottes face reddened, as her legs began to give out. The brunette began to slide down the door until Autumn tugged at her chin forcing her to stand, "What's got you so flustered darling." Autumn whispered seductively. "N-nothing." Charlottes said, her chest rising and falling rapidly. "Liar." Autumn said with a smirk. Charlottes gaze dropped from Autumns eyes to her lips before returning back to her eyes again.
Before Charlotte could respond, Autumn leaned in closing the gap in a bruising kiss. Charlotte let out a small noise as her lips locked with Autumns. Both women felt pure electricity run through their bodies as they kissed passionately. Charlotte was worried she'd open her eyes and it would be a dream, so she reached out grabbing hold of Autumns braces pulling her in closer until they were flush against each other.
The kiss lasted till air became an issue. Autumn pulled away and looked down at the brunette who was coming down from the high of the kiss.
They stared into eachothers eyes, neither one knowing what to say next.
