Saturday

It was your day off, and the quiet hum of the day felt like it was dragging on too slowly.
You were sprawled out on your couch, phone in hand, scrolling mindlessly through social media.

Then, your phone buzzed.

It was Daisuke.

"Yo,"
he greeted, his voice instantly filling your space with energy.
"What's up?"

He honestly sounded like he had practiced how he was going to greet you.

"Same old. Just trying to avoid being productive,"
you replied, sighing dramatically.

"Well, I had an idea, how about we go thrifting today? I know this killer
spot downtown."
he said, a mischievous edge to his tone.

Your ears perked up.
You'd recently discovered Daisuke's surprising obsession with thrifting.

It had been a revelation, honestly—he was as into it as you were.
The thrill of hunting for hidden gems in piles of mismatched clothes was something you'd bonded over a few times before.

"You're really going to drag me out for that today? I mean, I'm down. It's not like I've got anything better to do."
you asked, sitting up on the couch, intrigued.

"Hell yeah!
You know how it is—there's always something weird and like...awesome waiting to be found.
I swear, last time I found a jacket that looked like it belonged to a rock star from the '70s."
Daisuke laughed.

"Plus, we get to make fun of all the ridiculous crap people donate."
He added.

"True. The stuff you find is a mix of treasure and nightmare fuel.
But honestly, I'm in.
You know I can't resist a good thrifting spree."
You chuckled.

"I knew you'd say that,"
Daisuke teased.
"I'll pick you up in about thirty minutes. Get ready to unearth some gems."

"Oh, I'm so ready,"
you said, getting up and stretching.

"But, uh, let's grab food after.
You know, because I'll probably be starving from all that treasure hunting. You down for some greasy takeout, Daisuke?"

"You're speaking my language.
Let's hit the thrift store first, and then I'm all for some bad food choices.
But we're getting Nachos or something, no debates."

"Alright, see you in a bit, Dai."

You hung up, quickly getting ready for the trip.
Thrifting was one of those things that always seemed like it would be a waste of time, but in reality, you always ended up finding something amazing.

And with Daisuke as your partner-in-crime? It was bound to be a blast.

This is going to be a peaceful day. After all, what could go wrong while thrifting with Daisuke and grabbing food afterward? —simple day, right?

...

2:44pm

Just as you were finishing up getting ready, you heard the rumble of Daisuke's car outside.
You grabbed your phone, checked the time, and then slipped out the door.
