Today marks my first day of high-school in my freshman year. After graduating from Adventure Bay Middle School with my average B+ grades and signing up for school with my best friend Geno who was already a sophomore at Adventure City High. He convinced me and my mom that going there would be best for my future goal of being a marine biologist. Normally people think of me as some laid back surfer type of dude which for the most part they'd be right I absolutely love the ocean and surfing. But what really calls me to the vast shining blue water is the mysterious depths of the ocean floor and the creatures that lay underneath the surface. Just thinking about the discoveries I could make makes me feel super excited!
I threw on a pair of regular shorts that were a nice warm orange color that complimented. My brown plush fur. Then I put on a plain white collared shirt since it was the first day and I didn't wanna look messy. I walked to the bathroom and smiled, pinning a badge to my waistline. It was an orange badge with a shiny silver anchor symbol in the middle of it. Looking into the mirror I think back on when I got this badge. It was back when I was 5 years old and my Mom had just got divorced from my dad. She enrolled me in an after-school program for kids with unique talents or features that made them stand out.
I never really kept up with the other kids, just knew they were in the same city as me. There was a German Shepherd, he was really uptight and strict as all could be. Barked orders at use like we were soldiers. Then there was a Dalmatian, he was a vibrant boy with ambitions like his sky blue eyes. Only issue was his nak for falling over the smallest pebble on the ground and making a mess outta everyone. The next member was a Little Cockapoo, She was the smallest of the group and had very unusual pink colored eyes. But no matter how small she was she still rose to any challenge. Then there was this English Bulldog that attended the program too. He was very funny and quick to make light hearted jokes, but he definitely had an appetite and also was a little too obsessed with 'Astro The SuperDog' but who could blame him? That show was hot news back then. Then the last member was a Mixed Breed. He was peculiar, that's for sure. He never seemed interested in talking to any of the other members of the club and whenever I saw him there he was working on a gadget with a multi tool he had packed in a green backpack.
That was a fun club and just before we disbanded the club the leader of it 'Principle Goodway' gave us each a special Badge to represent ourselves to the world and talents. All in all I was glad to be apart of it and I wonder if I'll ever see those kids again, especially that Mixed Breed. He seemed to be more cheerful around me from what I remember but that's not here nor there anymore.
I brush my teeth and brush the fur on top of my head between my ears, always having a battle with the bed head from my pillows. It made my fur stand in a weird way I did not like. I'll just have my mom brush it while I eat breakfast. She always likes to style hair, that's why she got a job as a hairdresser. I walk downstairs after grabbing my orange headphones and putting them around my neck and holding my hairbrush.
"Hey Mama, Can you please bwush my haiw while I eat? It's doing that thing again." I asked her as I sat at the table where she had set up a plate of waffles for me.
"Sure thing Chocolate Chip, say you wanna practice your words before you leave for school too?" She asked me, referring to my speech impediment.
I think for a moment and shake my head, "No thanks Mama, I think I have it under control"
"I'm so proud of you, I remember when you were trying so hard not to get flustered when you slipped up." Mom said to me as he started to brush my fur as I ate my waffles.
