When the timer started, they burst forward, a blur of focus and speed. The first few fences came easily, a warm-up to build their rhythm. Sugar cleared each one with ease, his strides strong and sure. The first water complex loomed ahead, a drop into the pond and a bank out, which he navigated skilfully. A narrow brush fence followed, requiring precision, and Sugar flew over it with inches to spare. They tackled a double combination, a ditch, and a coffin complex without hesitation. With each obstacle cleared, Hanne’s confidence grew. Halfway through the course, the terrain became more challenging, but Sugar’s pace remained steady. They tackled a steep bank, galloped up a hill, and cleared a series of jumps that demanded every ounce of strength and precision. The last water jump was a log into the water with a narrow exit, but Sugar powered through, gathering himself beautifully for the final push. Now they were nearing the end. The last stretch held a series of stamina-testing fences, but Sugar took each jump with confidence, showing no sign of fatigue. The finish line was in sight, and Hanne could barely contain her excitement. They were on track for a winning time. Only one fence remained: a massive oxer that demanded accuracy. As they approached the last fence, Hanne felt her heart race with exhilaration.
