Summer of 2020

The loud cheers from the students rocked the walls of the gym as the next hip-hop group wearing white shirts and cargo pants, with brown blazers, started to perform. Sitting quietly at the corner of the bench, with its back leaning comfortably on a post, was a lady wearing their team's jersey, legs crossed as she pulled her cap down to cover her eyes. She thought — even with the noises around her, it was the perfect time to take her much needed nap for all the sleepless nights she had in the whole week of preparations for the event; she wasn't much a fan of dancing, yet alone, dancers. She didn't know whoever was performing too, since it's not from their team. So, she was convinced that she didn't have to spare her time and was about to close her eyes when a pair of dark, deep orbs, caught her attention.

It was as if the moment stilled, like in a story, or a scene from a movie, the others didn't matter. Nothing else did. Absentmindedly, she fixes her cap, trying to get a clearer look. A small smile escaped her lips. Her gaze fixated at the girl who's dancing her soul to the music, every melody grooves in rhythm, and with each move the girl makes, she was getting closer to perfection.

She possessed a strong aura, and you could see her walls — high and firm. You could never have an access, unless she lets you in. She doesn't look like a puzzle to solve, but a wonder to discover. Full of mystery and softness. The depth. The rareness. The way that girl is.

“Ano kayang pakiramdam maging parte ng mundo niya?” The lady asked herself.

The question lingered inside her head even as the days passed. Even after the event has ended. They were in the same campus, perhaps she'd see that girl again?

The question; buried but was never omitted.

Maybe it was just a fleeting thought. Just a random question. Maybe she was just curious. Maybe that girl was just different, that's why she left an impact for awhile. Just at that very moment. It wasn't suppose to last.

The world is kind to some, but cruel sometimes.

Hope is such a wonderful feeling, like a water to a flower.

“Hindi na siguro.”

Acceptance, on the other hand, sets us free. Just like the wind, it'll take you exactly where you're meant to be.

But, in this life where people come and go, may we find someone who stays and knows why.
