The morning sun streamed through Aiden's window, casting long, dancing shadows across his room. He stretched, yawning widely, and slowly sat up. A sense of unease washed over him as he realized the house was eerily quiet. No sounds of his parents stirring, no clatter of dishes from the kitchen - nothing.
Aiden swung his legs over the bed and padded downstairs. The silence was deafening. He called out for his family, but only echoes answered. A chill ran down his spine as he wandered through the empty house.
Suddenly, he heard voices outside. Curiosity piqued, he rushed to the window and peered out. His parents were engaged in a tense conversation with two police officers, and his sister, Ashley, stood nearby, her face etched with worry.
"What's going on?" Aiden asked, hurrying outside.
His parents didn't respond, their attention fixed on the officers. Ashley, however, turned to him. "Oh, you're awake," she said, her voice barely a whisper.
"What happened? Why is the police here?" Aiden pressed, his confusion growing.
Ashley hesitated, her eyes darting nervously. "There was a murder last night," she admitted, her voice barely audible. "Right here, in our backyard."
Aiden's heart pounded in his chest. "A murder?" he echoed, disbelief coloring his voice.
He walked towards the backyard, his gaze drawn to the spot where a stretcher, covered with a white sheet, was being loaded into a police van.
"What happened?" he asked a police officer, a man named Mike, who was overseeing the scene.
Officer Mike sighed. "We're still investigating, son. All we know is that someone was killed here last night. We're trying to figure out who did it.
Aiden, still reeling from the shocking news, approached Officer Mike. "Wait, can you tell me more about how the murder happened? Any idea what might have caused it?"
The officer, busy with his paperwork, paused. "Well, to be honest, the victim's face was completely melted, and his body had severe burns. We couldn't determine much else from the physical evidence."
Aiden was perplexed. "Burns?" he muttered, trying to piece together the puzzle.
"Yeah, it seems he was quite drunk and stumbled into your backyard. We're thinking it might have been a drunken accident or maybe a robbery gone wrong," Officer Mike speculated.
Intrigued, Aiden asked, "Can you show me where they found the body?"
Mike pointed towards a large oak tree in the backyard. "Right around there."
Aiden walked over to the spot, his mind racing. How could a simple drunken accident result in such severe burns? As he stared at the tree, a sudden chill ran down his spine. He looked up towards the window of his room. There, for a fleeting moment, he saw a horrifying sight: the Boiled One, more terrifying than ever, peering down at him.
Aiden blinked, rubbing his eyes. The figure was gone. But a realization dawned on him. "Oh, the Boiled One," he whispered, his voice trembling. "It must have been him. He killed that man last night."
Fear gripped him as he rushed back into the house. The house was eerily silent. His family was nowhere to be found. A sense of dread washed over him as he realized he was alone, face-to-face with the horrors of the supernatural.
Aiden burst into his room, heart pounding. The Boiled One was gone, but the chilling fear remained. His eyes scanned the room, searching for any sign of the creature.
