The Dragon Royal

Part 2 - The Family Secret Is Out And Life Must Continue.

My family is the most feared line of Royalty in the lands because of the power they hold over the dragons of this land. No one understands how we've done it, and to be honest I don't even know how. No one ever told me, being a princess you don't know much, it's only the princes that get to know everything because apparently "you need to be a Male to be a ruler" as my mother told me. I think it's a stupid rule, why can't Females rule? It's just unfair, we could rule just as well maybe even better, I think the Kings are just scared to see what would happen.

My family has always had secrets, they changed what was in the history books so that no one would find out about what they did. I was taught about it because I am part of the family but I was told no one must know and that we are now taught so that we don't make those same mistakes. The world was more cruel than I could have ever imagined.

As now I try to find my way in this new world it is very difficult, I am a dragon but that's not the worst part. People know that my family "keeps" dragons in the castle so they thought I had escaped and was trying to leave. I was trying to leave but I wasn't escaping the castle I had to leave, I didn't have a choice in the matter. The rest of my family aren't dragons so I thought they would have some sympathy but they wouldn't let me stay, I do not understand why because now we are all still family and without me to keep the family line ongoing it could end, now that I think about it, that might be why because I didn't produce a heir to take the throne after me. But I didn't want to because I'm only 18 years now but I was told that every hundred years a royal always had children young and now I understand why that is.

No one outside of the Royal family knows what happens during the Ceremony marking your Birth, those who know are only the ones who have had theirs. Of course, they aren't around anymore, they left this realm long ago. The funny thing is unlike the stories Dragons don't live too long, about 75 years if they're lucky, but if they aren't they are killed in battle, war or during hunting ceremonies. Reality is a lot scarier than I imagined and you'd think the same if you were turned into a beast...
