[SUBWAY PLATFORM – EARLY MORNING]The platform hums with the noise of commuters, but yunjin leans against a column, earbuds in, scrolling through her phone, dressed in her police uniform, her posture is relaxed and calmed but deep inside her she was thinking about the dream she had about chaewon .
—
Chaewon shuffles onto the train at the next stop, her oversized hoodie slipping off one shoulder and a cartoon umbrella tucked awkwardly under her arm. She spots yunjin almost immediately and lights up like a kid spotting a friend at recess.
Chaewon makes her way over, plopping into the seat next to Yunjin despite there being plenty of other seats available.
"OMG! we're meeting again! what a coincidence" chaewon said cheerfully but yunjin gave her a glance then kept scrolling through her phone.
"did you even fix your car yet?" chaewon asked and got yunjin's attention back, the latter looked confused, how did she know that my car was broken?
"how did you know?"
"i already told you about my dreams thing" chaewon winked.
"oh yeah, that's bullshit" yunjin tried to play nonchalant, but she was surprised.—
Yunjin stepped off the subway train, the screech of brakes fading behind her as she wove through the crowd. Her jaw clenched when she heard the quick, determined footsteps behind her.
"Wait!" chaewon called.
She didn’t turn around. Strangers don’t follow people. Strangers don’t call out like they know you.
“Hey!” The voice was insistent.
Yunjin spun on her heel, her blue hair swishing. “What do you want?” she snapped.
“You’ll need this,” the redhead said, thrusting the umbrella toward her.
Yunjin blinked. “What?”
“i told you,” the girl said hurriedly, as if the words might vanish if she didn’t get them out. “In my dream. You were standing in the rain, completely soaked.”
Yunjin’s lips parted in disbelief. A dream? Was this girl for real?
“lol” she chuckled, brushing past her. “Keep your umbrella—and your dreams—to yourself.”
chaewon kept silent as she watched yunjin strode toward the exist, she was kinda upset but she couldn't blame her, for chaewon it was a normal thing but for the world it's an unbelievable thing.
—
The doors to the station whooshed open, and yunjin stepped into the brisk evening air. A few minutes later, as she crossed the street, the first drop hit her cheek. She froze.
More drops followed, soft at first, then relentless, pelting against the pavement. She cursed under her breath and broke into a run, her coat doing little to shield her.
As the rain drenched her, she couldn’t stop thinking about the redhead, standing there with that stupid umbrella and that ridiculous dream.
“Unbelievable,” she muttered, shivering. But deep down, a tiny, nagging voice whispered: What if she’s right?
yunjin tried to ignore her thoughts, but after what happened, she started to wonder if the dream she had last night could really happen.
