I groaned internally, trying to keep my composure as he extended a hand to me, his dark eyes glittering with amusement. “Shall we?”

My cheeks burned as I reluctantly placed my hand in his, letting him lead me toward the small cupboard in the corner of the tent. I refused to look at anyone, especially Leah and Sophie.

The cupboard was small and dark, just large enough to fit the two of us without being unbearable. The door closed behind us with a soft click, and I am standing awkwardly, my back pressed to the wall, as my eyes adjusted to the dim light.

Well,” I muttered, breaking the silence, “this is... cozy.”

Zane chuckled softly, leaning against the opposite wall, his hands slipping casually into his pockets. “Could be worse,” he said, his voice low and smooth, like a caress in the quiet. “We could be stuck in here with someone boring.”

“You have an impressive amount of confidence for someone who just serenaded me in front of everyone.”  I said.

“You laughed,” he pointed out, stepping closer. “Which means I succeeded.”

The air between us shifted, the playful banter giving way to something heavier, more charged. My breath hitched as Zane took another step, close enough now that I could see the sharp lines of his face, the slight curve of his lips, and the softness in his dark eyes.

“I have to ask,” I said. “Are you always like this, or do you just enjoy making me uncomfortable?”.
