BRIELLE POV

I sat on edge on my seat waiting for his response

"Im sorry, I want to keep my private life a secret and I'm sure she wouldn't like her name out in public"

I heaved a sigh of relief, thank goodness. I was sweating thinking about how reporters were going to be storming out on my door the next hour asking dumb questions and invading my privacy.

I was about to call my mom on the phone and just then she walks in through the front door
"I was just about to call you" I said

"Yeah, I'm here now, how have you been?" She asked

"I've barely been seeing you mom, you just can't wait to move in with your lover, can you?" I teased her

"Oh shut up and stop teasing your mother" She blushed

"Have you watched this?" I showed her the TV where Davis and the host were now talking about business issues.

"Oh yeah, I was watching it on my car drive home"

"I was so scared he was going to reveal our names" I said

"Of course not, Davis likes to keep his personal life a secret and I cautioned him beforehand as well" Mom stated

"Well that was a relief"

"Asides that, Davis told me the good news. you got the job offer from Mateo's company! Why didn't you tell me?" She said, excitedly

"That's because I'm going to decline the offer"

"What do you mean decline? Of course you're not" she said coming to sit next to me on the couch

"Baby what's wrong? Talk to your mother, I feel like you're hiding something from me" She added

"It's nothing mom. I just don't want to work for Mateo"

"But you've always wanted a job like this and you've worked so hard, now you're just going to throw it all away?" My mom asked, I could see the hurt in her eyes.

"I see it as nepotism mom, I feel like it's wrong and I don't deserve to be in that position" I lied.

I hated keeping this from my mom, if only the issue was so simple that I could just tell her, but I can't. I don't want to jeopardise her marriage and the peace of her new family.

"What? Thats nonsense, of course you earned it, you wouldn't have gotten this job if you were not qualified, there's no such thing as nepotism here"

"You don't get it mom, I would have never made it passed the interview stage if not the fact that Mateo knows me"

"Ok and so what if nepotism is involved? What matters is you worked hard and you got recognized for the job. Please at least just consider it. This will be my only request for you, I am your mother. It's every mothers dream to see her daughter doing well and working at a big company and this is the perfect opportunity" she said

I took a deep sigh, maybe I should consider this. Maybe it won't be as bad as I thought. Nepotism wasn't so bad. I'd just have to work with Mateo for a few hours and try my hardest to avoid him as well.

"I'll think about it mom, i'm not making any promises" I said and got up to leave and went to my room.

*******

I sat down on the passenger seat of my moms car as we drove our way to the Caldwell mansion. Mom had basically forced me to come with her as it turns out Davis and her had something to reveal to us.

I grumbled all the way down there, I wanted to speak some time alone to myself in my car and maybe go shopping.

"It'll just be for a few minutes, it's not like we're spending the whole day here" mom said.

She parked the car in the garage and we both got down and headed to the mansion.
The housekeeper opened the door for us and we walked in seeing Mateo and his father already settled in the living room.

Mateo and I quickly glance at each other, I might have given him a glare instead.

"So can you both sit down please?" Davis said as he saw us.

Mom sat down next to him while I sat down on the empty couch next to them, opposite Mateo.

"I'm guessing you two must be wondering why Lizzy and I called a quick meeting and why we wanted it in person?"

"Yes, I had a very important meeting at the office before you called us here" Mateo complained.

"Yeah like you're the only one who's busy. I wanted to go shopping!" I stated my own complaint, earning a side eye from everyone.
What? Can't a girl go shopping in her free time?

"So lizzy and I are getting married in three weeks time" Davis announced, shocking us all.

"WHAT?" Mateo and I shouted at the same time

"Three weeks? Mom, is he serious?" I asked

"What do you mean three weeks? You both just got engaged, at least try to get to know each other more!" Mateo added.

"Yes we have already decided that, we have our whole lives to know each other son, Lizzy and I just want to be together as soon as possible. We want to be a family" Davis said

"And I know you two must be shocked but this is our wish and I hope you two being our children, respect it" My mom added, her hand around his bicep.
She was so in love with this man and always seemed to want to get closer to him, I loved seeing my mom being a lover girl.

"But mom….'

"Dad, can I speak with you please? In private?" Mateo interrupted me

"If it's that serious, come then" Davis said getting up from his seat and Mateo followed him leaving only I and my mom in the large sitting room.

I go close and sit next to her
"Mom, think about this. Are you really sure you want to rush this wedding? You might still want some more time to get to know him"

"Yes I do, I just want us all to be a family quicker than sooner"

I sighed, if this was what my mom wanted, I would respect her wishes. She deserved happiness and love from the right person.
I was glad to see someone finally treating her right even if I would not want anything to do with this family.

Mateo and his dad spent quite a while together before they both came out and walked towards us. I could see the striking resemblance between them now as they walked side by side.

Mateo was an exact carbon copy of his father, he was just five inches taller, he was taller than everyone.

After a few minutes.

"Brielle, I need to talk to you, privately"

Something was not right
