Following the dark events of Pokémon Platinum, Team Galactic leader Cyrus failed in his attempt to bend Dialga and Palkia to his will "so that he could shape a perfect world," according to his warped ambitions. However, his failure marked the beginning of a greater tragedy. Giratina, the guardian of the Distortion World, did not free the legendaries from their dimensional prison. Instead, in a fit of rage, he dragged them deeper into his domain and, in an act of unholy cruelty, destroyed them. With their combined powers, the shadowy dragon became a force of utter, uncontrollable chaos, far more erratic and deadly than ever before. Tired of his father Arceus' creation, Giratina began a vendetta against the "perfect" world that had ostracized him.

The boundaries between reality and the Distortion World began to crumble. Viscous shadows spread across Sinnoh, and a plague of corruption swept through the world, infecting humans and Pokémon alike. The bodies of victims became grotesquely warped, sprouting dark tentacles and spiral patterns evoking the terrifying design of Giratina. Pokémon, once battle companions and loyal allies, became Ghoskémons, warped specters that retained only a trace of their former selves. Sinnoh sank into a shroud of darkness. The fragments of the Distortion World expanded rapidly, enveloping Johto and spreading like a curse across the other regions. Chaos reigned, and hope seemed a distant memory. But even in the darkest of stories, a hero emerges. This time, the light came from Cynthia.

Sinnoh's legendary champion had been absent when the catastrophe began, immersed in an archaeological expedition in an ancient cave that connected Sinnoh and Johto. There she discovered a disturbing mural: an apocalyptic vision of doom, with Giratina reigning over a ruined world. At the center of the mural, a golden symbol glowed faintly, almost like a ray of hope lost in the desolation. Intrigued, Cynthia peeled off the symbol and put it away, unaware that she had claimed a relic of Arceus, a key piece in the battle to come. When she returned to her old home, horror lay in wait for her. The visions on the mural came true: darkness covered the sky, Ghoskémons roamed the streets, and the infected cried out for more victims with grotesque, terrifying, inhuman moans.

Cynthia was more than willing to face the horror alongside her great companion Garchomp. But the wave of enemies was overwhelming, and the champion was about to fall under the cloak of corruption. In her most desperate moment, the golden symbol glowed with divine intensity. The shadows receded, the infected were repelled, and a glimmer of hope lit up Garchomp's chest. The symbol, now marked as an emblem on its scaly skin, was a blessing from Arceus, a shield against darkness and a promise of salvation. Now, Cynthia and her Garchomp travel together, fighting against the darkness that spreads unstoppably. At their heart, only one mission: to face the Evil Pokémon, challenge Giratina, and save the world from annihilation.
