A SORCERER'S JOB was a lonely one. They were not appreciated by the general public, in fact, their profession simply didn't exist to the average eyes. Nor did they find satisfaction in their missions, having to relinquish curses day in and day out. Curses ruminated consistently, slithering between humans at any given chance. Turmoil was all it took for it to grow and inhabit like a parasite, multiplying. To have to fend off their explosive numbers, it was a cycle for many of them. A long, unforgiving cycle.
Your fingers curled around the cigarette, bringing it to your lips once more. Inhaling the toxins slowly and relishing the feeling of it, you then breathed out, the smoke hovering above the city air. So there you were, standing in place alone, on the rooftop of a skyscraper in Tokyo.
The lights below twinkled like tiny stars, while the actual stars in the sky were too covered by pollution. From here, humans were miniscule ants, so small they were nearly insignificant.
You tossed your stick to the ground and crushed it with the sole of your shoe. You didn't smoke often, truly, you didn't. Today had just been a long day... another long day of you fighting curses.
Summer brought on a lot of changes. Mostly unwelcomed ones.
Lifting your arms over your head, you stretched your limbs, feeling bones crackle. At this rate, you were going to turn into a granny any day now. They were overworking you to dust. Damn them and their child labor, taking advantage of someone as poor, young, and helpless as you.
"Wonder what Satoru and Suguru are doing right now," you said out loud, speaking to exactly no one. Tracing your finger mindlessly on the steel railing, you leaned your head down wearily. Were they on their missions? It was late though. Maybe they were back at Jujutsu High. Well, you wouldn't know. You were seeing less and less of them, since all three you were kept busy to really check in with each other.
Summer brought in too many unknowns.
Gojo Satoru being the catalyst of it.
You wished he would stop growing so strong. If it weren't for him, maybe you would still be going on missions with them. Them being your friends. They were the perfect excuse to fool around for a bit. For you to act like any other teenager for a moment. Their company made the missions... feel less like missions. Now that you were here, you didn't realize how lucky you had it back then. It always went like this. Even during your adolescent days, when you went to normie school and made normie friends, you took it for granted.
You regretted. And in your regret, you had forgotten to cherish the present.
There was nothing to cherish here though, in your lonesome. The darkness could only have so much fun.
You supposed it was about time to turn in for the night.
Into the elevator you went, pressing the button for ground level. Your gaze then landed on the B button, for basement, where you had originally been at earlier. They had an underground tunnel beneath this building and in that tunnel were the curses you dealt with. Which was why you were here in the first place.
You shifted your body to the corner of the small space. On level 39, the elevator slowed, opening up to reveal a man and a woman.
The woman was in a raging havoc, following the man into the cramp elevator. "I know what you did, you bastard! Sleeping with the secretary behind my back, how dare you! You unfaithful, lying coward! I'll have you know you're kicked out of the house!"
"This is exactly why I did that," the man argued, pointing at her. "You're not all that. You don't make me happy anymore!"
You averted your eyes, listening in to the screaming match. It was entertaining to say the least. It was like a live soap opera, drama to the maximum. Too unreal and unbelievable, that was what normal people appeared to you. Their problems and issues seemed miniscule to you. Stupid and unrefined. None of it made sense.
