au: billie is a talkative idiot working at a movie theatre and is someone who is far too interested in some antisocial asshole.
The theatre!
A common magical place where you pay far too much to see a film- which you can hardly even hear over the sounds of children crying and the constant shushing of their parents shortly after- that will be released on DVD or online a month or two later. But, you know, it's not like anyone even buys DVDs anymore.
Yes, the theatre was just fantastic. Billie loved working there, dealing with the attitudes of enraged fathers who didn't want to pay that much for their four snot- nosed kids to sit and watch a movie they won't even pay attention to. She loved cleaning up the isles of spilt popcorn and sticky candy that people drop on the floor and don't bother to clean up. She just loved the theatre so, so much.
Billie glanced down at her phone, which lay on the side.
9:14
Just sixteen more minutes and she's free to go; free from this shitty job that she needs to pay off her college tuition. Not only does she need the money, but it turns out her manager also likes how she treats the customers so he has begged her to stay as well. As much as Billie hates her position, she refuses to half- ass anything so she was, unfortunately, a good employee.
Hey, looking on the bright side, at least the theatre was surprisingly slow today. Only a few people had come in to see the latest showing of- well, whatever was popular right now. It was nice to have an easier day for once, a rarity on a Saturday night.
Time went by pretty quickly, as it was 9:27 when Billie glanced at her phone once more. Just as she was about to leave, a pretty girl that looked around her age had entered the theatre.
She seemed intimidating, with her smudged eyeliner and black outfit, kind of reminding Billie of Katniss Everdeen when she was in the tribute parade in Catching Fire. However, she was on her own. Maybe her friends are still outside and will come inside soon, she thought.
When she stepped up to the ticket booth, her sudden request stumped Billie.
"Hi, can I please have one ticket to-"
"Wait, you're actually gonna watch a movie by yourself?" Billie interrupted.
The blonde gave her a look of disbelief and sighed. "Listen, okay, I've had a really shitty day so could you please just give me my ticket?"
Billie's eyebrows shot up at her response. "I-yeah, sorry. What movie was it again?"
"Just...I don't know. Give me whatever movie that comes to your mind first. I really do not care."
"You're gonna have to tell me what movie you want to see-"
"Joker."
Billie slowly nodded. As she printed off the ticket, she wondered why she was even going to see a film with no company. Was her day really that bad?
"You're in seat E14."
"Since when does this theatre have assigned seating?" she asked, handing over her card.
"Since I said so," Billie fired back.
The girl scoffed in her face before thanking her for the ticket and heading inside. As soon as she saw her enter, Billie quickly left the booth and followed behind. This wasn't her stalking a pretty girl, just her making sure she would have a better night than her day had apparently gone, because one thing Billie loves to do is make people smile, even if she was a bit rude.
Billie made her way inside the next showing of Joker, sliding into the seat next to her in row E. Let's just say the girl was not happy when Billie sat down.
