It had been a long time since I had been on the mainland, and by a long time I mean 10 years. A decade. My parents decided to move there when I was 10. My sister was fifteen, and as soon as humanly possible, she moved back to states and settled in Santa Barbra. When I turned thirteen my parents sent me to boarding school on the Big Island and moved back to the California, settling in Oxnard. I really didn't mind that my parents left me in the Hawaiin Islands, we never really got along. My sister didn't take to kindly to this, she completely disowned my parents and moved on with her life. They would send me a monthly check and a birthday present, sometimes visit. They didn't know how to be a parent anymore than I knew how to be a child that shared their dreams. Their dream was for me to become a Forensic Scientist, except my passion and dreams were in photography. So thats what I did. After graduation I moved to Kauai and started taking pictures of anything I could. Soon enough Roxy hired me and flew me to all the islands, to take pictures of whatever they needed. Soon I was taking pictures for all the big comapnies that needed photos of the Islands. So, why am I coming back? My 21st birthday is in three days and as much as I'd rather spend it with my friends on Honolulu or Maui, my sister insisted that I spend it with her and her fiance.  She also wanted to introduce me to this guy, except that I knew it would be worthless considering that I'm staying in Hawaii. I flew into LAX this morning, since I had to meet with some Roxy and Volcom clients. When I say this morning I mean 2, I got in at 10 because of the time difference. After the meeting I drove up the coast, stopping in Malibu to meet with some celebrity clients and to eat. After that I would occaisonally stop along the way if I saw a good picture oppurtunity. I came into town around four in the afternoon completely starving. I had never been to Santa Barbra, but judging from what my sister has told me, the food here was amazing. I was planning on eating somewhere along State Street, but it was incredibly packed so I turned onto Chapala St. and saw a place called Esau's Cafe. I shrugged and pulled into a parking spot and sat down outside. I started snapping pictures of the street and the birds, really anything.

There was an amazing smell that was coming out of this cafe and it was pancakes. I let the warm buttery smell make its way into my nostrils and I slowly inhaled and closed my eyes. It smelt like home, even though my home usually smelt like Pineapples it reminded me of childhood. Someone was talking to me but I wasn't really paying attention. I cracked an eye open and squinted at a very attractive waitor.

"Hi, can I get you anything to drink?" he asked me.

Yes, he was attractive with his dark hair, tan complexion and crystal blue eyes, but considering I was only going to be here for a week, i put my wall up, and went strictly platonic.

"Just water." I replied in a friendly tone.

He nodded and asked me "Are you ready to order?"

He was looking at me like he knew me, but I wasn't really sure why, I had never seen this person in my life before. Although I kind of wish I had.

"Indeed, good sir, I shall have the short stack of pancakes." I told him with a smirk as I handed him the menu.

He took it and smiled showing me some pearly whites "Fantastic choice, I'll be right out with that."

He walked away and i looked at the street.

The thing that was the most annoying about the mainland is how cold it could get. It had to be in the 50's and I was dying. It did give me a reason to wear pants though, and that is saying something. He came back with my water and set it down in front of me.

I said thanks and he turned and walked away then stopped halfway through the door and said "Im sorry but you look really familiar to me."

I motioned for him to sit down across from me and he did hesitantly. He had perfect teeth and piercing blue eyes, that didn't match his whole look at all. I started thinking about all the black and white photos I could take of him, that I almost didnt hear what he was saying.
