Keep Your Hopes Up

Fanny sat on the steps of the hotel building. She stayed on the 4th floor, where all the other Watchers and Nurses stayed. She didn't know how long she'd been out there, she was in a daze. Fanny wouldn't be a good Watcher if she was in a daze and wasn't watching, though. She was supposed to be out there, right? It was her shift. Liy and Pillow said so, she was sure. Liy and Pillow were Watchers who worked with her. Watchers just had to watch out for infected and keep certain Weeping Willows safe. Her Weeping Willow was Tree. It was stupid to her that if plants can't get sick or infected, they just are left crying from winter to spring, hoping they don't die from it. She hated the idea of it, and it was just a plant contestant's equivalent of the disease.

"Fanny!" Remote shouted.

Fanny flinched. 'Jeez, does she really have to be SO loud?' Fanny thought. Remote had a bow on her back, that Basketball had made for her. It changed her, made her have more emotion, be 'nicer', just so she'd feel more than just..well, a mechanical mind. You wouldn't be surprised that Robot Flower was mad about that.
"Whaddaya need.." Fanny asked. "You know it's not your shift anymore, right?" Remote laughed. Pillow was standing behind her.. Ah, it was here shift. Fanny must've been in a dream or something.. "Oh. Sorry," She started to get up. "Go check on Tree, okay? Bye!"

December 23rd

Tree lay in bed, crying. It hurt at this point. To do normal things. His eyes ached. He didn't feel good. At all. He just wanted some rest, but it was so hard to sleep. He didn't want to eat, he barely wanted to drink.

"Hey, Tree," A voice said from the door. It was hard to see, but he could still tell who it was.
Fanny turned the light on, sitting in front of Tree in a chair. "It's me, Fanny."
Tree cracked a weak smile. "Hello."
"How are you feeling?" She asked. "My head hurts," Tree hiccuped, "it feels like I could pass out or something.." His voice was weak. You could barely make out what he was saying. He was also paler since the last time she saw him. Leaves covered the sides of his bed. "Are you hungry?" Fanny asked. Tree didn't answer. Fanny asked again. "No," he said. "Tree, you haven't eaten in 3 days. I hate seeing you suffer like this, so that's why you need to eat. You'll starve. It's my job to make sure you don't starve.." She lectured as she went to get something for Tree. She ended up getting him a simple breakfast, some eggs and bacon. "Keep your hopes up, Tree. You're gonna get better, alright?" Fanny sat down on his bed. Tree lightly smiled. "I will."
"Here, you can take my clipboard." Fanny nudged her clipboard near him. He grabbed a nearby pen and almost immediately started drawing. It was a little messy since his hands were shaky. It was a picture of him, Pen, Blackhole, and Marker. Of course he missed them. It's been hard without them. "I want to talk to them again. And just be near them." Tree mumbled. He said it louder than he wanted to. Fanny felt awkward. Her shift was about to start up again, right? Yeah.

"I have to go." Fanny said. "Oh! Um..already?" Tree asked. "Yeah, I'll be back tomorrow though, alright?"

..

"Okay."

Fanny hated this feeling.

The feeling of leaving someone. She should've gotten used to it by now, right? And yes, she did kind of get used to it. But she hated leaving certain people, like Tree, alone. But she did it. Everyday.

"OH hello Four!! Oh, and X!! How great to see y-"

"You see us everyday." Four grumbled. X was behind Four. They weren't..very happy? And Four didn't seem to be doing anything, so Two thought they'd help! "X! What's wrong? You look depresse-"
"Two. Bakery, now." Four reached out and grabbed Two, who immediately made a little squeal before being forcefully put into the bakery. "What was the need for that? I have amazing legs for a reason!" They cried. "Twwwwooo. Something is HAPPENING." Four yelled. That definitely caught their attention. "I don't know why, I don't need to know, but there's this weird flower," they sighed. "Yes! And it's dangerous! It made Nine and Seven sick! They won't even talk to us anymore." X exclaimed. They didn't mean to interrupt Four. It was just, really scary to them. "..And it's spreading throughout the Pillary Ruins." Four continued. "It's going to get here eventually.."

"So that's why we came here to get you."

X smiled. They'd convinced Four to take Two with them, to, well, wherever they were going. "But my contestants! I have to save them--"
"Then we won't take you--X!" X had purposely hit Four. "Convince them! Also, sorry, Four." Four just smushed X a little before going back to the conversation. "We're taking you. Because--UGHHHH--we'd be sad if you died here."
"Four. My contestants will die-"
"Your contestants wouldn't even notice if you were gone. Let them die. Your life or theirs?"

..

"That's what I thought," Four grabbed Two, before they disappeared.

Gaty and Clock stood in a corner, quiet.

"They're leaving us?"

Hello!! Creator here lol. Not as many words as I wanted to have..But I was extremely surprised with how many I wrote (1000 words!!) And haven't written in a while, and I didn't want to introduce too many POVs and different characters all in one chapter, though that probably would've helped me write more, lol.

Time: like, 2 days? Technically it took 4-5 hours because I was on the bus to school making this.

By the way my art sucks on digital, but I thought I'd give you guys a picture every chapter or 2 anyways, lol.

Thanks for reading!
