"Melody! Stop, fuck—STOP!!"
"So, mall first, or something more scandalous?" Melody hums as she drives into town, Daisy lounging comfortably in the passenger's seat.
"Mmm... Well, we promised your dad we'd be safe, so let's start off with the mall." Daisy chuckles as she responds to a message from John.
Melody sighs dramatically. "Fine. But I'm adding something scandalous to the list for later, okay?"
Daisy laughs, shaking her head. "Deal. But for now, let's just stick to retail therapy, and maybe grab some coffee? I need something bitter to soothe my dark, empty soul."
"What, my dad's peen wasn't enough?"
"What the FAUK?! Melody Price!" Daisy slaps Melody's arm, her eyes wide with shock and amusement. "You little shit! I haven't even done your dad!"
"Yet." Melody snorts. "But seriously, I know you two love each other. I've never seen my dad so invested in a woman before. I thought he'd be a lonely old man after him and my mom split up."
"Yeah... Melody, are you really okay with me being with your dad? Like... It doesn't weird you out, or make you think less of us both?"
Melody glances over at Daisy, her eyes filled with sincerity. "Why would I? You guys are obviously in love. And honestly, I'm happy for him. He deserves someone who makes him smile like that, especially after everything he's been through with my mom and the military. Plus, you'd make an awesome step-mommy."
Daisy's cheeks heat up, a warmth spreading through her chest at the thought. She's not quite ready for that title yet, but the idea doesn't repulse her like it 'should.' "Thanks, Mel. That means a lot... But stop calling me mommy."
Melody laughs, throwing her head back. "Whatever you say, Daisy Doe."
"Okay, I've bought enough." Daisy chuckles as she puts her bags in the trunk of Melody's car. "It's already four o'clock in the afternoon, can you believe that?"
"Time flies when you're spending money, doesn't it?" Melody smiles, shutting the trunk.
Daisy nods, her eyes glancing around the parking lot. She's been feeling a sense of unease since they left the house, something niggling in the back of her mind that she can't quite place. The mall was busy with shoppers, a sea of faces that all seem to blend together. But amidst the cacophony of voices and laughter, one set of eyes seems to follow her—or is it just her paranoia? "I'm gonna send John a text to check in with him."
Melody nods, scrolling through her own phone. "Yeah, do that. He's probably worried sick about us. Especially you, his precious little pillow princess."
