'Where have the years gone?' Daisy thought to herself as she watched Adeline toddle around the playground, her giggles echoing through the crisp morning air. Her once tiny frame had blossomed into a whirlwind of curiosity and energy, her curls bobbing with each step she took. John chased after her, his laughter blending with hers, creating a symphony of pure happiness that was music to Daisy's ears.
Adeline's third birthday is coming up in a few days. Melody and her girlfriend, Viper, are visiting from Scotland for a few nights. Ghost and Soap agreed to come with their girlfriend, and Gaz is brining his husband and their adopted twins. (Their stories will be told at a later time.)
"Come on, loves. We need to get back home and set up the guest house for Melody and Viper." Daisy's voice cuts through the laughter, and John's eyes met hers, filled with excitement and a hint of nostalgia. It's been almost a year since they'd seen Melody, and having her here, along with their growing family, was going to make this the best birthday yet.
"Alright, little tot. Time to go home and get ready for your sister's arrival." John swoops Adeline up into his arms, her laughter turning into delighted squeals as he spun her around. Her chubby fingers grasp at his neck, holding on tightly as he kissed her cheek.
"But Daddy, I wanna stay and play!" she pouts, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
"You can play before dinner, okay?" Daisy smiles as she kisses her daughter's cheek. "Mommy and daddy have lots to do today. Melody will be here tomorrow morning."
Adeline's eyes light up at the mention of her sister. She nods eagerly, her pout vanishing. "Okay, Mama. But promise you'll play with me after?"
"I promise." Daisy offers Adeline her pinkie.
"Pinky promise!" Adeline squeals, locking their fingers together.
John chuckles, his heart swelling with love for his little family. He nudges Daisy playfully. "Looks like we've got a deal, luv. You're on play duty after dinner prep."
"And you're gonna help me, husband." Daisy grins up at John, the love between them palpable as they share a knowing glance.
The next few days are a whirlwind of laughter and chaos as they prepare for the birthday bash. Melody and Viper's arrival brings a burst of life into the house, their stories from across the pond filling the air with excitement and laughter. Adeline clings to Melody's leg, her eyes wide with wonder as she listens to tales of adventure and friendship.
The night before the party, the house buzzes with energy. The scent of baking cakes and fresh flowers fills the air. Daisy and Melody are in the kitchen, knee-deep in frosting and sprinkles. The kitchen counters are a canvas of pink and white, with glitter scattered across the surface like stardust.
"Hey, Mel?" Daisy hesitates, her eyes darting to the living room where Viper is playing with Adeline.
Melody looks up from her task, a dollop of frosting on her nose. "What's up, Dais?"
