A sonnet I wrote for a high school poetry competition a few years back.
---------------------------------------------
Waking up to the snarling, growling earth
I trip and stumble up to my window
Watching homes fall into its gaping girth
I only hear the harsh, cold winds blow
Bolting fast out of my small crumbling shack
As the divine sun now fades out of our views
The Earth continues to hiss, shake, and crack
As the sky darkens from former bright hues
Swirling above the darkened clouds draw near
A tornado sprouts from a once calm sky
I cower in insignificant fear
And witness the world that's around me die
And then when the time seems at its most dire
The darkness thins out and starts to expire
