Mo Chu and Wu You exchanged a glance, and in the next moment, they swiftly moved toward a nearby abandoned car, crouching down and using it as cover.
Soon, the sound of hurried and panicked footsteps grew louder. The two women cautiously peered out and, sure enough, saw the murderer weaving through the withered trees, chasing a few terrified men and women who were running for their lives.
Was there still time to escape?
The moment the first scream echoed through the air, escape had already become impossible. No one could evade the murderer's exceptionally sharp hearing.
Mo Chu and Wu You had only narrowly escaped before thanks to their magical tools and the presence of many survivors at that time, which allowed the murderer not to focus solely on them.
But now, the situation was entirely different. The once chaotic environment had quieted, with no more cries of struggle. The murderer even had the leisure to monitor them both through the night.
This meant that the remaining survivors were likely just the two of them, along with the unlucky few currently being hunted.
The two exchanged a glance, and even without words, Wu You could still read the silent question in Mo Chu's eyes: "What should we do next?"
Wu You took out a small bottle from her pocket, poured the remaining two "Transparent Statues" into her palm, and gestured for Mo Chu to take one.
This was their last lifeline.
...
Seeing the killer and the others running toward them, Mo Chu and Wu You knew they couldn't just wait and do nothing, so they tried to slip away.
Using their cover, they moved stealthily, and things were going smoothly until, unexpectedly, a flying axe came out of nowhere, heading straight for Wu You, who was in the lead.
Mo Chu didn't even notice the axe at first, but saw Wu You make a sudden evasive move. In the next moment, the flying axe lodged itself in the ground where she had been standing. Mo Chu's confusion quickly turned to a chill running down her spine.
Mo Chu stiffly turned her head to look toward the killer in the distance. She saw a woman lying motionless in a pool of blood at the killer's feet, while the killer was facing a man who was desperately fleeing.
The man, hanging by a thread, couldn't escape his fate. The killer threw the flying axe with perfect precision, relying on her sharp hearing, even though she couldn't see him.
The man let out a muffled grunt before collapsing to the ground, never to make another sound.
...
Mo Chu swallowed hard, her gaze turning toward Wu You, as if silently asking, "Should we keep moving?"
Before Wu You could respond, the killer flicked her right hand, and the flying axe was pulled from the man's body and the ground, swiftly returning to hang at her belt.
In the blink of an eye, the killer drew the axes from her belt again and hurled them straight at the two women.
The two flying axes came at them in quick succession. Even if they managed to dodge, they would still be unable to escape the killer's relentless pursuit.
So, Mo Chu and Wu You used their final protective charm—"Transparent Statue."
The flying axes passed through their transparent figures and buried themselves in the ground.
Though the killer's expression was concealed, the stillness of the atmosphere suggested she was focusing intently on the surrounding sounds, trying to locate the two who had vanished in that moment.
