Chapter Two Hundred and Seven: Dealing with Yang Qi

No one spoke, the entire courtyard filled only with the sound of Yang Qi's muffled groans.

Seeing his contorted face in pain, Hua Zhi felt a sense of satisfaction. The ways of the world are fair, how you treated my Second Aunt back then, today it's all coming back to you!

Watching as Wang Rong delivered a few punches, Hua Zhi finally spoke, "That's enough."

Yang Qi could no longer stand, his resentful gaze falling on Hua Zhi. After just experiencing hardship, he wisely refrained from saying anything hurtful to avoid more suffering. Just wait until he left this place, just wait until he returned!

Hua Zhi was not at all intimidated by him, asking calmly, "Does it hurt?"

"I will not write a divorce decree!" Knowing what she was after, Yang Qi sneered, refusing to give in!

"You're thinking too much. Those punches were just to vent for my Second Aunt. As for the rest... I figured you were a tough one, so I prepared something special for you. I hope you can tough it out till the end."

Hua Zhi rubbed her hands together, chuckling as she picked out two items from a pile of treasures. She had Wang Rong open his mouth, each dropping a drop inside, no matter how much Yang Qi struggled, he couldn't break free.

He frantically tried to clear his throat, unable to vomit anything. Then a choking sensation hit him, causing his vision to darken. Fortunately, the choking didn't last long before subsiding, but just as he breathed a sigh of relief, it returned, repeating in a cycle.

At first, he could cry out a few times, trying to attract attention to rescue him, but when no one came and his suffering increased, he fell silent.

Grabbing his own neck with one hand, he seized the moment when the choking subsided to reach out towards Huazhi, but even as the next wave of choking hit, Hua Zhi showed no sign.

It wasn't that she didn't understand his plea, but Hua Zhi knew the kind of person Yang Qi was. When he freed himself, he would surely come looking for trouble. Though she had set up measures to protect herself, she could still gain some leverage now.

After another half a moment passed, just as Yang Qi felt he might die there, he finally heard Hua Zhi's voice, "Are you willing to write?"

Yang Qi felt a sudden relief, afraid to move his head for fear of more discomfort, hoarsely calling out, "I'll write, I'll write!"

"Give him some water," Hua Zhi ordered.

Shao Yao poured a bowl of water into Yang Qi's mouth, muttering, "So useless, couldn't even last that long."

Being belittled by a woman with an indiscernible face but a pleasant voice, Yang Qi's face flushed red, but when he remembered what she had just fed him, his red face turned pale.

Wang Rong placed the prepared paper and ink in front of him, but Yang Qi, resentful, hesitated to pick up the pen.

Hua Zhi couldn't be bothered to say anything to him, simply stating, "Continue giving it to him..."

"I'll write!" Yang Qi no longer dared to procrastinate, picking up the pen with shaking hands.

Hua Zhi added, "What I need is a letter of divorce written in your usual handwriting. Yang Qi, you know what I know. If you don't want to go through this again, write what I want honestly. If I find out you're not being truthful, you'll take a trip to hell before we discuss whether you can write it properly."

Yang Qi's last bit of hope shattered, the choking pain still there, and the lingering pain in his stomach. With a trembling hand, a drop of ink fell onto the paper. His heart skipped a beat, quickly looking up at Hua Zhi, afraid she might think he did it on purpose.

"Here's enough paper for you to write."

Yang Qi took the top sheet and dared not make any other movements, starting to write stroke by stroke.

He was utterly perplexed. How could a person's demeanor change so drastically?

He had been married to Huazhi for over a decade, practically watching her grow up. The Hua Zhi he remembered was a proper young lady, reserved and unremarkable in every aspect. But now, this woman made him feel so unbearably miserable.

Could it be that she had always been so ruthless?

Had she been pretending to be obedient all those years?

He couldn't believe that someone could be so cunning from a young age, knowing how to hide their true self. The Hua family had always been harmonious, and there was no reason for her to act this way!

But one thing he was sure of – they both had their eyes wide open!

Glancing up at Hua Zhi, Yang Qi resentfully wrote his own name. With this document in hand, the Yang family would no longer have anyone to restrain the Hua family.

Wang Rong checked the document to ensure it was correct before handing it to Hua Zhi. She carefully examined every word, knowing well the treacherous nature of intricate Chinese characters.

After double-checking for any mistakes, Hua Zhi stood up and walked towards Yang Qi, with Gu Yanxi, who had been quietly observing, following closely behind.

"Yang Qi, of all the idle aristocratic young men in the capital, I despise you the most. Even if you were to brawl with others over women outside, I wouldn't look down on you like this. But you locked yourself behind closed doors and laid hands on a timid and fragile woman who has been with you for over a decade, bearing your children and never stopping you from doing what you wanted. Yet, you treated her this way. This is your only skill - bullying the weak."

Such a stark humiliation was more embarrassing for a man than being slapped in the face. Yang Qi breathed heavily, his face crimson, but he dared not move or even speak.

He didn't want to go through that pain again.

"You can go and report him now. Give him a ride," Hua Zhi ordered.

Wang Rong bowed to her. He truly admired this Hua family's eldest granddaughter. Only a woman like her deserved the title of the future Shizi’s wife.

She had the means, the courage, and the ruthlessness, but her protection of her family made it impossible to harbor any ill feelings towards her. In the present situation, the Hua family needed someone as fierce as her to ward off the other noble families.

After knocking Yang Qi unconscious and tossing him into the carriage, Wang Rong drove the carriage away.

Hua Zhi breathed a deep sigh of relief. Finally, it was done. The enmity with the Yang family was now firmly established. But so what? She was not heartless and unjust from the beginning.

"Let's go back."

The three of them left the courtyard, where a carriage was already waiting outside.

Hua Zhi glanced at a house about two hundred meters away, not inquiring about its use. She took the lead in hopping onto the carriage, with Shao Yao pulling Gu Yanxi up after her.

Shao Yao turned back and made a face at Gu Yanxi, eagerly following Hua Zhi into the carriage.

A flicker of amusement passed through Gu Yanxi's eyes as he sat on the carriage's perch, assuming the role of a coachman.

The carriage moved smoothly, with him cracking the whip in a restrained manner each time. But the smile never left his face.

The most important people in his life were these two women who were now in the carriage behind him, and he could occasionally hear their laughter. He could even imagine what they looked like now - Shao Yao must be slouching with no proper posture, while Hua Zhi's eyes were sparkling. Just thinking about them made his heart soft.

In the future, he would prepare a residence that suited Hua Zhi's preferences and accommodate both of them. They could do whatever they pleased, and he would follow their lead, no matter what.
