Jessica's POV
"Happy birthday big sister." James said when it turned 2:36. I waited a minute until I did the same at 2:37.
"Happy birthday little brother." I smiled and hugged him.
"I have something for you." He says and pulls out a box and hands it to me.
"Oh my god. James I love it." I awed over the charm bracelet. It was silver and had charms on it. It had an elephant (my favorite animal), a charm that was orange (my favorite color), my initial, and a charm that said twin on it. "Okay my turn." I stood and walked to my closet.
This is a tradition between him and I. We always get each other something and stay up until out birth times. I don't know why we do it but we always have.
"Oh my god Jess. How did you get this!" He said looking at his signed football by his favorite footballer.
"I have my ways." I smiled. Our uncle is actually a physical therapist for football players and got an autograph.
"Happy birthday." He said.
"Happy birthday." I said back to him and we hugged. I can't believe we are sixteen now. "Now get out of my room." I said.
"Goodnight." He replied.
"Hey James." He turned around and lend on the door frame. "What do you think dad was like?" I randomly ask the question I've asked myself for years.
"Why? Why should I care about the guy that got our mom pregnant sixteen years ago and ran off before his children were born? He's nothing to me. He's dirt under my shoe." My brother said. There was nothing to say or do but nod.
"Goodnight James." I said to him.
"Night." He replied and I laid in my bed wondering what he's like. Does he have money or a family of his own? Does he know we exists? is his life nothing? Is he a good man.
I ask myself these questions all the time.
---------
"Happy birthday beautiful." My moms voice wakes me up from my slumber. I look at the time after opening my eyes and it's six in the morning. My mom is in her work clothes. She works more than twelve hours a day. I feel bad but she makes the most of it.
"Thanks mom. I love you." I sit up and kiss her cheek and hug her.
"I love you too baby." She said. My mom and I and James are all really close. I would do anything for her.
"I will see you tonight. I have a surprise for you." She said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I asked my boss and he said yes. I am getting off from the hospital early tonight and taking you and James out to dinner." She said and I smiled big.
"Oh my god yay. I'm so happy right now." I hug her. "I love you mum." I said to her.
"I love you too princess. I have to go now." She said and I nodded. "Bye." She said.
"Bye mom." I said and rolled over and fell back asleep.
I wake back up around 10:30. I walk into my bathroom I share with James. I turn on the shower and jump in. After my shower I walk out and put on some sweat pants and a shirt on. I walk out and walk downstairs and put my hair into a messy bun at the same time. I walk into the kitchen and make myself a bowl of cereal and make some buttered toast.
I sit at the table and eat. While I'm eating James walks in and does the same. He pulls out two glasses of orange juice and hands one to me.
"Thank you." I mumbled and he sits in front of me. I finish eating and put my dishes in the sink and wash them. The bell ring once I finish and go to the door. I open it and it's my best friend Kayla.
