(In the morning)
It was early morning when Edward stood in the balcony, his phone pressed against his ear as he spoke with Ben. "I won't be coming to the office today" he said, his tone calm but firm. "I'll work from home. Make sure everything is in order there. If anything urgent comes up, call me, but I don’t want any distractions today." He paused listening for a moment then added "keep me updated." After a few more words, he ended the call and slipped the phone into his pocket, his gaze lingering over the vast view outside there Mansion.
Just as he was about to turn back inside, he heard Amelia's soft murmurs from the bed. He furrowed his brow, walking quickly toward her. He saw her, sweating and restless, her face contorted in some kind of distress. Her words were mumbled and incoherent, and he couldn’t make out exactly what she was saying.
Without a second thought, Edward rushed to her side and gently pulled her into his arms. "It’s okay wifey" he whispered, his voice soothing. "I’m here" Amelia stirred slightly, her eyes fluttering open as she woke up partially from the nightmare.
The moment she saw him, she instinctively hugged him, her arms wrapping around him tightly. Edward held her, his hand gently patting her hair as he continued to comfort her. "It’s okay baby" he murmured softly. "Just a bad dream. You’re with me, you are safe now" His soothing voice and gentle touch were enough to calm her, and he continued to hold her close, offering the reassurance she needed.
2 hours later, they were both settled in bed. Amelia’s head rested on Edward’s lap, her hands on his thigh, her breathing steady as she slept. Though Edward was still focused on his work. One hand rested on her head, caressing her hair softly, while his other hand typed away on the laptop, his attention divided between his wife and his tasks.
Amelia stirred, stretching her body before opening her eyes. She blinked a few times, disoriented at first, and then looked up to find Edward. As she sat up, he pulled her closer, and she nestled her head on his shoulder, her curiosity piqued as she glanced at the laptop screen. However, the work he was doing was too complex for her to fully understand.
“What are you working on?” she asked, her voice still laced with sleep.
Edward explained her “I’m handling a few reports and some emails for the company. Just a few things that needed my attention.”
Amelia nodded, understanding that he had responsibilities to attend to, but she couldn’t help but feel a little guilty that he was staying back just for her. “You should go back to the company” she said “I’m fine now.”
Edward moved his laptop aside and placed his palm gently on her forehead, feeling the heat still lingering. His hand then traveled to her neck, stroking his thumb gently on her cheek. “It’s still not a normal temperature” he murmured. “Rest some more. I’ll stay.”
Amelia’s lips parted, and she sighed softly. “I’m really okay now.”
Edward looked at her with concern. “It’s not just about you being ‘okay’ I’m your husband. I should take care of you” he said, his voice filled with tenderness. “And you got sick because of me.”
Amelia looked away, sticking her tongue out playfully in a guilt manner. “...Actually, not because of you” she replied.
Edward raised an eyebrow, confused. “What?”
Amelia shifted slightly, her face flushing slightly. “Aunt Maria didn’t tell you anything?”
Edward thought for a moment guessing if this is about the surprise still he asked, his voice tinged with curiosity. “What are you talking about?”
