It was a night in the quiet town. A light breeze swept through the trees and whirled the leaves on the ground around and around. All of the lights were off in the houses. Except one. In this house There was a mother a father and a brother and sister. The parents were in bed while the siblings were out in the living room with a map spread on the floor. pencils and markers littered the floor as well.
"According to the map we should head out of town and walk down the road for half a mile." The brother said. "I don't know, should we do this now?" His sister replied. "Its now or never." He picked up the map and utensils. He stuffed them into his back pack on his back.
"Hold on I need to grab something." He ran upstairs and tip-toed past his parents room and ran into his room. He crouched down and reached under his bed. He pulled out a machete and put that in his back pack as well. He went downstairs where his sister was waiting for him. "Okay lets go." They opened the door and made their way down the street.
There was a rustle in the bushes. The kids were to far away to hear. A cat jumped out of the bushes and gave out a meow. They turned and saw the cat. They walked over and the cat rubbed up against their legs. "Who's cat is this?" Angelina asked. "I don't know, we need to keep moving." Johnny grabbed his sisters arm and pulled her along. The cat followed them meowing wanting attention. He turned around. "Go home! Shoo!" The cat disobeyed the order and kept following. "Just ignore him he'll go away." They kept walking and eventually reached the tree line. The cat had followed them all the way and did not show any signs of leaving.
"You ready?" He asked "I guess." They both took their footsteps into the forest that they would not make out alive. They walked for about a half hour. Johnny pulled out the map for the hundredth time. "It says to go left two hundred spaces." Johnny said. The turned left and started to walk some more, the cat close behind.
They came across a path and started to follow it. The further they went the more overgrown the path became. Soon they were wading through bushes and thorns. "Johnny I'm stuck, help!" Angelina yelled. "Hold on my leg is stuck." Johnny yelled back. He tried to pull his leg out but it wouldn't budge. He took his back pack off and pulled the machete out.
"Where did you get that?" Angelina yelled. "I stole it from dads closet." He hacked the bushes around his body. Whatever had his leg tightened its grip on him. He cut a group of bushes and revealed what had him. A giant root was wrapped around his ankle and creeping up his leg. He gave out a yell. He went to swing at the root but another grabbed the machete and threw it. "Johnny!" The root now had Johnny in the air and was thrashing him around. Angelina saw the machete on the ground a couple feet away. She tried to reach for it. A root slithered through the bushes toward her. She stretched her arm as far as she could. Her fingertips brushed the handle when the root grabbed her ankle and yanked her into the air. The roots now enveloped half of Johnny's body. "I'm sorry, I almost had it." Angelina said. "Its okay..." All of a sudden the root holding Angelina split in two and dropped her. She hit the ground hard. The fall knocked the wind out of her. She looked up as what seemed as a ray of light split the root holding Johnny split in two as well. He fell to the ground. He got up and brushed himself off.
"What just happened?" Johnny asked. Blood oozed from cuts on his arms. "Johnny you're bleeding!" Angelina yelled. "What's wrong, haven't seen a little blood before?" He wiped the blood up and grabbed the machete. "I'm really confused." There was a rustle in the bushes "Get behind me Ange" Johnny said. The bushes quivered. Johnny held the machete in his hands, ready to fight whatever dangers might be lurking in the dark. The cat that once followed them but ran from danger hoped out of the bushes and gave the two a quiet meow. Johnny lowered his guard and walked over to the cat.
"Stupid cat couldn't even fight off a mouse." The cat rubbed up against his legs.
