Awake

She woke. She felt absolutely starved, as if another moment without food would end her life. But she breathed in deeply, trying to calm her hunger. She needed to know where she was and what was happening first. The floor was soft  beneath her and as she moved to get up she could hear the crunch leaves. Miles away she heard a twig snap and she stood up and spun, trying to see where the sound came from. There.

Through the trees she could see a moose walking through the forest, could see the sunlight glint on its eyelashes as it blinked. She could see the wind brushing its fur upwards, and she was entranced.

In a matter of seconds she had run up beside it and was about to pet it, too feel the fur herself when it grunted loudly, its ears back and hair standing up. It stomped the grown aggressively before running away, and she was left standing there feeling rather disheartened. It was a shame really that the beautiful creature was so frightened of her in just a few seconds.

She looked downwards to examine herself, hoping to find what had scared the poor thing. She found herself wearing a loose dark blue dress, made out of a heavy fabric but which one she wasn't quite sure. Coarse white stockings covered her legs however there were rips and tears all over them, and she appeared to be barefoot. On her left wrist was a metal bracelet with the words Alice Brandon, 109 inscribed on it. Alice Brandon. That must be her name of course. But 109? Her date of birth maybe, but Alice felt that wasn't right. Whatever 109 meant, and whoever she, Alice Brandon was, she was determined to find out. As Alice took a step forward, something  different flashed in her mind.

A tall man with light blonde hair ran through a forest, a grin on his face.
"You can't hide for ever you know!" he called out.
From a random tree, Alice jumped out and landed on his shoulders.
"Hadn't planned on it." she said breathlessly, leaning over him to stare at his face.
The man just smiled before Alice slipped of his shoulders and into his arms. They stood like that, wrapped up in each other for at least a minute before Alice stepped away slightly.
"Come on," she said giving the man a quick kiss. "I wanna win again." And then she began sprinting away.

Suddenly, Alice was once again staring at the trees infront of her and could no longer see the mysterious man. She was unsure of what had just happened, if it had just happened. But the...vision was so peaceful, so happy that she knew she wanted to experience it for herself.

Alice continued walking forward in the forest, not knowing where she was going but knowing it was better than standing around all day. As she traveled she kept having more 'visions', ones of people like her. Vampires, she learned. Immortal beings who fed off humans. She saw her travels over the next few days, and decided to follow what she did in the visions. In just a few short hours she had already made it to the side of a road and she stood there, waiting for a vision to show her what to do next.

While she waited a red car pulled over just a couple meters from where she stood, its lights flashing hazardously. A man stepped out, probably in his 40s judging by the grey in his hair and soft wrinkles beginning to form on his face.

Alice was entranced with him, in a way different than she had been with the moose. The way she could almost feel his heart beating, hear the blood pulsing through his veins. He smelt...delectable. It was the only word. Alice felt her fangs extend and venom pool in her mouth, and she knew what she had to do. Afterall, she had seen many red-eyed vampires do it in her vision. She couldn't contain her excitement, or her hunger, any longer. As she stepped forward and made the decision to kill the human she was pulled into another vision.

Alice ran through dark streets, going through the alleys with confidence and certainty. She stopped, and the man with the blonde hair appeared from the opposite direction. His red eyes were so dark they were almost black, and there was a wild smile on his face.
"This way." he called, before turning and sprinting off again.
Alice followed and soon the pair found what they were looking for, a sobbing woman bleeding against a wall. There was a knife wound in her abdomen and there was no chance she'd live for more than an hour.
"Please," she begged as she noticed Alice and the man. "Save me. Help me."
They said nothing, instead tearing into the woman and ending her life. Her screams echoed around the night but neither the man nor Alice stopped until her body was drained of blood. Alice turned and grabbed the mans hand, both their mouths and chins painted red.
"I've missed you." she said.
The man laughed and pressed a surprisingly gentle kiss to her forehead, after what he had just done to the women behind them. "It was only three days Alice."
She whined. "Thats still too long, I had to wait 30 years Jas. I don't want to waste a single second."
The man just laughed again. "Good thing we have eternity."

Alice hesitated, the womens screams (or future screams) suddenly louder than the mans pulse. And with those seconds of hesitation, Alice was pulled into another vision.

Alice and the man ran, dodging trees, jumping rocks and racing each other. Suddenly Alice stopped and the man halted beside her. He turned to stare at her, golden eyes full of curiosity. She nodded her head to the left.
"Can you hear it Jasper?"
He grinned, sly and calculating and once again began to run, this time in the direction Alice had pointed out. They worked together and brung down a large grizzly bear, feeding on it. Afterwards as the pair sat against a try Alice sighed contently and leaned against the man, her head falling onto his chest. He seemed to move in time with her, shifting into a more comfortable position and throwing his arm around her quickly. Their legs were entwined, in fact there wasn't any part of their bodies that weren't touching.
"I love you Alice."
"I know." she replied, drawing small circles on his palm. "I love you too."

By the time her visions were complete the man had evidently solved whatever problem he had had and was driving away. The further he drove, the less stable the first vision began to be. With every second it became more shimmery in her mind, transparent even. Though it didn't disappear completely.

Her second vision though, had comforted her oddly enough. She knew how she had to hunt now, how to keep her energy high and her eyes golden. And she had even found the mans name, Jasper.
