The Sun Abandons the Sky to Let Darkness Conquer
There was a girl named Lina, a girl with calm features. She appeared lazy, judging by the way she rested her head on the book as she read, almost as if she were about to fall asleep. She was surrounded by several neatly arranged books, and the stillness of the library engulfed the late-night atmosphere.
Lina was deeply immersed in a book about historical wars and battles, exposing how humans had abandoned their humanity. The events of the book resonated with her thoughts, causing conflicting questions to arise in her mind:
Why don’t humans think about the destruction and tragedies that wars bring? The land turned into a graveyard of piled corpses, with birds scavenging on them. Is it all for power or authority to oppress the weak or for empty pride and enjoyment?
A voice interrupted her thoughts, shattering the imaginary world she had created. It was the voice of an elderly man with a comforting smile and a kind face. He said to her:
"My dear, the library is closing now."
Lina feigned a frown, but the trick didn’t fool the old man, who kept his calm smile, showing his patience and composure. She stood reluctantly, clearly displeased, as she had been in the height of her enjoyment. She replied with a tone of dissatisfaction:
"Really? Alright, I’ll leave the book."
The old man, still gentle and hopeful, said:
"Good night, and may you have a restful sleep."Lina smiled faintly at him and walked past him. A few steps later, she was outside the library, where the cold night wind struck her. She shivered, as she wasn’t wearing warm clothes, showing her negligence.
The street was dark, illuminated only by faint moonlight, and completely deserted. She began heading home, her thoughts deepening with every step. This was her usual state whenever she wasn’t busy—her thoughts consuming her, something she despised most about herself.
Lost in her thoughts, she accidentally collided with a young man around her age. Due to his sturdy build, Lina fell to the ground. The young man quickly tried to help her up, extending his hand toward her.
But she snapped at him with an angry and pained tone:
"My leg! Can’t you see where you’re going? Are you blind?"He responded calmly, even after she swatted his hand away:
"I’m not blind, and I can see perfectly fine. But, miss, you were the one lost in thought."Lina didn’t respond. She was too preoccupied with trying to stand, which was difficult due to the impact of her fall. She reluctantly accepted his help, as she had no strength to refuse. This act revealed the noble character he possessed.
After a moment of silence, now both standing, Lina broke the quiet, saying:
"Don’t expect me to thank you."The young man, with dignity contrasting her rudeness, replied:
"Not at all, miss. I was just wondering what a girl like you is doing out at this hour."She responded bluntly:
"That’s none of your business."---
