Mason woke up with a crick in his neck. He was hunched over in the corner of the bedroom. He groaned as he stood up. A crack sound came from his neck as he rolled it around a few times. He stretched as he looked over the girl's body which was laying on top of the sheet. He walked quietly over to her as to not wake her up. He had bandaged her head to stop the bleeding and carried her up to the room last night.
Mason had to keep asking himself why he was doing so much for a stranger. And his answer always kept being the same.
“... I don't know...”
He sat down on the now dry bed. The sun beated down on him. The time would probably be around 8 to 8:30. Mason's stomach growled hungrily.
“Better get food... for her too.” he thought.
So he stood up and the floor creaked a bit. The girl instantly got up with wide eyes. She rose the gun up to the boy's head.
“Not this again.” he sighed.
“Look. Don't even bother. I took out the bullets and threw them away.”
She gasped and checked for herself. Nothing. Just like he said. She whimpered and put her hands over her head.
“Please don't hurt me...” she said softly.
Mason patted her head at which she winced at the touch.
“Hey, calm down. I don't want to hurt you.” he took her hand and made her stand up.
“Really?” she said with her head down.
“Trust me.” and without even a response, Mason took her downstairs toward the door.
Before he opened the door the girl stopped him.
“I can't go out there though. I'm trying to be found by the P03PL3.
“I'm sure there aren't that much outside.” Mason scoffed.
He opened the door to see two P30PL3 across the far side of the street.
“See.” the girl said.
Mason closed the door and then raised an eyebrow at the girl.
“Who are you? And what did you do?”
“The girl looked down and was silent for a moment. Then she sighed and looked back up.
“My name is Luna Vertigo. Or as I'm called in the lab, LUN4 V.” she pointed at her neck which showed the barcode.
“I'm a test subject that picked up at the streets at around the age six. I've been a test subject for about eight years now. You see my eyes? It used to be just icy blue and then they tried making it red. Though it failed since it only hit my left eye and t mixed with the blue color making it purple. And also my hair.”
She touched her hair which was a range of colors like red, blue, orange, green, purple, white, black, yellow/blond, and etc...
“They've kept doing this to my hair since I was the only with hair that couldn't change a color completely. Every single month this was done that I don't even know what my true hair color is anymore.”
So why did you choose to flee now?” Mason scratched his head in confusion.
“Because they made me...” chocking sound came from her mouth, “... eat a...” more gagging noises.
“Hey. Are you going to be okay?” the boy patted her on the back as she knelt down onto the floor with her hand covering her mouth.
After a moment of silence, Luna said something softly.
