My name is Isabella, a Polish writer in the midst of World War II. My country, once vibrant and full of life, is now nothing more than rubble telling a tale of pain and sorrow. German planes tear through the sky, attacking relentlessly, and the streets are drowned in an eerie silence, broken only by the sound of explosions and people's screams. The lives of the Germans and Soviets tear through us as we live in constant fear, moving between shelters as if we are fragile beings with no value in a world where everything has been lost.
Yet... despite everything, I continue to write. I write for my country, for every life that dies in silence, for the hope that hides deep within this darkness. My books are famous across Europe, reflecting the depth of literature and the national sentiment that refuses to surrender. But in the midst of this war, I thought I would remain loyal to this path alone, away from any emotions that might distract me.
Until that man appeared... the one with the dark green eyes that I had never seen before in my life. His eyes carried the entire world's forests and the stories hidden within them. He was a German general, not just an ordinary soldier. He was a symbol of power and prestige in the eyes of everyone. Yet, how could I resist these feelings that erupted within me like a volcano that couldn't be extinguished? How could I...
How could I admire a stranger, a mere passerby? He was a symbol of power and prestige in the eyes of everyone. Yet, how could I resist these feelings that exploded within me like a volcano that couldn't be extinguished? How could I remain loyal to my country when the love for this man shattered all the rules I had built around my heart?
I have no answer. But I will tell you everything, about how it all began, and how love, in the deepest and darkest place, can transform into a beam of light. In this book, I will share with you my story with my beloved, the one with the green eyes.
I was in my apartment, reading fan letters for my latest novel "Among the Ruins of War." The window of my room was open, and the wind carried with it the scent of harsh winter. Through that window, I could see the towering mountains and the railway tracks that transported food to the besieged cities and villages. I felt a deep urge to reflect on these moments, but suddenly, the sound of notifications from my phone grabbed my attention. Each message carried the same theme: "Our dear writer Izabela, we want a second part of Among the Ruins of War... but outside Poland."
I read message after message, all revolving around the same idea, as if they were expecting a miracle from me. "What is this? What do I do?" I wondered as I slowly closed my phone. I couldn't hide the feeling of pressure, as if I were trapped between others' expectations and my own thoughts. I sighed deeply and looked up at the night sky, which sparkled with stars as though comforting my weary heart.
Then, without realizing it, I suddenly stood up. The idea was clear and bright in my mind. "I'll leave Poland," I whispered to myself. "I'll board the freight train, and I'll travel far, far away from this destructive war. I will search for inspiration in distant places, where pain can't reach me."
It was an unexpected decision, but I felt I needed it, to break free from this stagnation and find something new that would ignite my passion for writing once again.
