A kingdom by the sea, what a dream, someone once thought. A few years later, the kingdom of Blue Bay emerged, and with it, a long lineage of kings and queens ruled over it.
It was just another ordinary day in the life of young Elenor, the youngest princess of the kingdom, only 12 years old. She spent her days doing all sorts of things, after all, the castle was enormous, filled with small landscapes and hiding places. Besides annoying her sisters, she would run through the hallways and much more.
{Elenor, stop it!} {Seriously, you’re being annoying. Get out}, her sisters said, trying to have a moment of peace to get ready for their birthday party.
The youngest didn’t understand what was so great about their parties, but her sisters would spend the whole day getting ready for it. {They’re so boring} the girl thought as she stood outside her sisters’ room.With nothing else to do, all she had left was to talk to her friend Mariana, the daughter of one of the castle’s maids.
Even though they were four years apart, the young princess didn’t mind much, and the two quickly became friends, spending their days together.{They spend the whole day locked in there, those parties aren’t even that cool.} said the princess, frustrated by the lack of attention from her sisters.
{I don’t know what’s so interesting about it either... but my mom works so hard for those parties...} her friend replied.From across the kitchen, one of the cooks spoke up, {Girls! What did I say about hanging around in the kitchen? Go play somewhere else.}
With nowhere else to stay, the two decided to wander through the castle’s endless corridors. {Ugh... I hate having nothing to doo...} complained the princess, thinking of activities she could do with her friend. Suddenly {Hey! El, come here.} Mariana gestured for her friend to check something out. {Wha-}
{Shhh. Look over there.} she said, pointing at the door to Elenor’s father’s office.The two girls, hidden behind a wall, watched the king and queen talking to someone they had never seen in the castle before. {Who do you think that is?} asked the princess, curious. {I don’t know. I’ve never seen him here before.} her friend replied, intrigued.
It was hard to say who the person could be since they had their back turned, but judging by their outfit, they seemed like someone fun, or so the girls thought, with their youthful imaginations.
The person wore a peculiar suit in shades of green, black, and gold, adorned with bells and white gloves, something entirely out of the ordinary within the castle.From another perspective, there was Peter, the new court jester of Blue Bay.
{I hope you won’t disappoint us.} said the queen with an authoritative and serious tone. {Never, Your Majesty.} he replied after hearing all the rules they had laid out. It was his first time seeking work at a royal court, so he tried to mentally note everything he needed to do and the various castle rules.
{I believe that’s all, you may go.} the queen concluded.Peter followed the queen’s orders and walked down the corridor.
A little farther from where he had been, he let out a sigh, thinking, {This shouldn’t be too hard.}.{Let’s talk to them!} Elenor said excitedly upon seeing a new face in the castle. On the other hand, her friend didn’t share the same enthusiasm. {He’s new... maybe we should ask my mom first. She might know something about them...} There was a pause, but the youngest shrugged and ran off, laughing. {El!!... Ugh. She’s always like this...}
The day went on, and the princess couldn’t find out anything about the new member of the court. Maybe they were just strange or wasn’t working yet, she thought. Perhaps they did something she hadn’t noticed, but one thing was certain, she wouldn’t ask her parents, or they’d find out she had been snooping around the castle.
{Maybe Mariana was right. I didn’t figure out anything on my own...} said the little girl with a pout.
{Now I can’t even talk to her, it’s almost dinnertime... And then there’s that party I can’t even go.}The princess returned to her room, frustrated. After that, she simply ate dinner and went back to her quarters since she wasn’t allowed at her sisters’ party. {How boring...}.
