The White House was beginning to stir as Lauren's boots echoed softly against the marble floors of the West Wing. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and sipped her coffee, trying to shake off the early morning chill. She had an agenda today-a private Christmas celebration with Kamala this evening before heading out to visit her family tomorrow. To make it special, Lauren had enlisted Tina's help to decorate her old apartment, transforming their little haven into a cozy Christmas escape. What better place to celebrate their first christmas than her old appartment, what they called their bubble.
She smiled to herself, imagining Kamala's reaction. They didn't often get the luxury of being normal-a couple who could spend holidays together without the weight of public scrutiny-but tonight, it would just be them.
At the gate, Tina was already waiting, bundled up in a thick coat. Lauren greeted her with a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks for doing this, T," Lauren said.
"No problem, babe," Tina replied, holding up a box of decorations. "You sure this plan of yours is gonna work? What if Madam President gets suspicious?"
"She's already suspicious," Lauren admitted with a grin. "But she won't figure it out. I just need to slip away this afternoon to grab her gift."
Tina gave her a knowing look. "And what's the gift? A sexy Mrs. Claus outfit?"
Lauren rolled her eyes, chuckling. "Not quite. You'll see later."
Before they could chat more, Lauren's radio crackled to life. "Eagle is awake. Report to her room. She'll be heading to the Oval any minute."
"Duty calls," Lauren said, giving Tina a quick hug. "Thanks for everything. I owe you big time."
"Just don't let her work you too hard," Tina teased. "And have fun tonight."
Lauren smirked as she turned away, her steps quickening.
When Lauren entered Kamala's bedroom, she was greeted with the sight of her girlfriend standing by the vanity in a sharp navy pantsuit, meticulously fixing her hair. Kamala's brow was furrowed, her movements sharp.
"Hi, babe," Lauren said, her voice light as she approached, aiming for a kiss.
Kamala tilted her head, offering her cheek instead.
"Good morning to you too," Lauren said, raising an eyebrow. "What's up?"
"Nothing," Kamala replied tersely, her eyes focused on her reflection.
Lauren circled around, wrapping her arms around Kamala's waist from behind. She rested her chin on Kamala's shoulder and grinned. "You're clearly mad about something. Spill it."
Kamala shrugged out of Lauren's embrace, still not looking at her. "I said it's nothing."
Lauren couldn't help but laugh softly. "Kam, come on. You're acting like a child."
Kamala turned to face her, fixing Lauren with a pointed glare. "It's not funny, Laurie. Where were you this morning ? I woke up to alone again, its been 3 days this week. Plus I called you-twice-and no answer."
Lauren blinked, then smiled. "Oh, so you're mad because I wasn't there to keep you warm?"
Kamala rolled her eyes but didn't deny it. "And, for your information, I was kind of horny this morning."
Lauren's smirk widened as she leaned closer, her hands squeezing Kamala's ass. "Were you, Madam President? I thought I was still on punishment."
Kamala swatted her hand away, turning back to the mirror to finish her makeup. "I said "I was". Which is why I took care of it myself in the shower. Pity I was alone, though."
