Chapter 4: Looking for Clues

When the truck pulled up to the hospital the two kids piled out onto the sidewalk.
"Listen, I'll be back in about 20 minutes to get you, if anything happens before then try your best to stay hidden. Be safe you two." Butch rolled up the window and began driving off leaving the two kids alone on the curb.

Jack led her inside and grabbed a cane and handed it to Elizabeth. Elizabeth started walking like a blind person while Jack led her along. They got to the elevator and pressed the button titled 'children's floor'.

"Look, if I see anything I'll hit you with the cane and then nudge towards it." Jack nodded.

The doors opened and the two kids stepped out and walked to the front desk.

"Excuse me miss. Me and my twin sis here were really close to Sarah Jones. Would it be ok if we looked around and see what she used to do?" the desk clerk smiled and nodded to the kids, who walked down the hall. They came across a patient who used to be Sarah's patient. Jack stopped a nearby nurse.

"Excuse me, May we visit this patient?"

"Yes, but only for a little bit, it is almost dinner time."

Jack opened the door and led his sister inside to a chair.

"Hi there, whats your name?"
"Emily,who are you?"
"My name is Jack and this is my sister Elizabeth. We were wondering if you knew anything about your old nurse Sarah?"
"She was the nicest lady. She bought me a teddy bear to help me feel better. I wish I knew what happened to her."
"A bad guy stole her from this area of the hospital, do you remember anyone scary or creepy?"
"A strange man visited me and said that he was going to save me and then he just left."
"Did he give you his name?"
"Nope, he had a mask on so I didn't see his face. He did give me this paper and said to give it to some girl named Elizabeth."
Elizabeth spoke up "My name is Elizabeth," She started to whisper."I'm Sarah's daughter, I'm in disguise."
"Well then here,this must be for you." She handed Elizabeth a piece of paper.

Just then the nurse came in, and the two had to leave so Jack led Elizabeth back to the elevator and back outside. When they got back to the foyer, Jack put the cane back where it belonged and they got in Butch's truck which was waiting for them. And the ride back to the farm house began.

The first thing Elizabeth did when she got home was returned the sunglasses back to where they belonged and then went and climbed into the bath. When she got out she snuck across the hall to her room and got dressed before she sat on the bed and looked at the paper. It looked like all that was on the page was backwards letters. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. "Come in!" she called. Jack opened the door and came over to where she was so he could look at the page himself.

"Backward letters?" He looked at her confused.
"That's what I thought too." She suddenly got an idea. She spun the page around and went over to the mirror and sure enough, she could read it. It said: "Your mother is fine but time is ticking. Next place to look is under the kitchen. No she isn't there but the cops are sniffing. I hope you get caught so I can free her. Not to the streets but where she will fly. Have fun Elizabeth and good luck staying free."

Elizabeth dropped the paper and stumbled backwards. Jack walked over and picked it up and held it in front of the mirror and read it.

"Under the kitchen? What does that mean?" he turned and looked at pale face Elizabeth.
"He wants to kill her?"
"Hey,we will find her. Let's just follow the bread crumbs and avoid the hunters."
She took a deep breath. "Ok ok, under the kitchen, in my house the basement was under the kitchen so maybe we have to look there?"
"Maybe but I do know one thing, it's getting late. I'm going to bed, night Elizabeth." he turned and started to leave.
"Night Jack."
He left and she finished getting ready for bed and then crawled into bed and fell into a really deep sleep.
