Happy Reading :)
"Lexi!" Lydia screeched through the phone.
"What!"
"We're going to Paul's pool party!"
"What!"
It was the end of 8th grade, and people were celebrating.
"Tommy from Spanish is gonna be there," she hissed.
"Lydia, did you learn nothing from last year?"
Lydia started dating Jonah last year after he put the moves on her. It was amazing! Until she told her brothers after school one day.
They had nearly malfunctioned, of course. They had never really talked to Lydia about boys before then, I guess they thought it would be a while before she started wanting to date.
Well, that day we learned she was not allowed to be alone with a guy that wasn't related to her.
"Yes, but this time I won't open my big mouth, okay? And you'll be there, so it won't be suspicious."
"Will Melvin be there?" I asked.
"Of course, that's the only reason I'm allowed to go. There will be some high school people there too."
"Oh goody." I rolled my eyes.
Melvin had a girlfriend now, which shouldn't have made me as upset as it did but I couldn't help it. I didn't realize how much I liked having him around until he started ninth grade and me and Lydia were alone in middle school.Well, not totally alone.
"Hi Lexaroo!" Joey, Lydia's little brother squeaked through the phone.
"Give me back the phone, Joey!"
"Mom said it's dinner time."
"When is your big boy voice going to come in, Joe?" I asked.
"Uh-um, I'm already a man now." His voice squeaked again on the word now.I giggled and I just knew he was blushing.
"Here." I could only assume that was the sound of him handing the phone back to Lydia.
"Thanks," she laughed.
"So Melvin?"
"Yeah. And the she devil."
I laughed. Lydia didn't really hate Melvin's girlfriend, it was mostly because he was allowed to have a girlfriend and she wasn't allowed to date yet that bothered her so much. I didn't mind though, I liked being able to hate the girl without having to explain myself.
I was being a good friend, not a jealous ex. Not that we even dated. He just spent every night my brother wasn't home in my room so that I felt safe. And he brought me his mom's cooking once a week.
Yeah, he wasn't an ex, but it sure hurt like hell when I found out he was dating someone.
"Did you hear me?"
"What? Sorry I'm day dreaming."
"I said, will you come with us on Saturday? Greg got his driver's license so he's gonna drive!"
"No Leo?"
"Nope!"
"Sweet!" That meant no annoying speech about the dangers of teen drinking.
"We'll pick you up at 11!"

Saturday rolled around and I was ready. I had my bathing suit on underneath my shorts and tank top, and had a change of clothes in my bag.
