Author POV
They had reached the mansion and exhaustion took over. In the middle of the night, Edward woke up, his gaze softening as he looked at Amelia peacefully sleeping beside him, her arms wrapped around him like he was her safe haven. But the peace on her face only deepened the storm in his mind.
His thoughts drifted back to the initial days when the attacks began. He had feared the worst—that Amelia was being targeted because of him. The possibility that his connection to a man who is feared throughout the underworld could have put her in danger had sent a chill through him.
What if someone was trying to use her to get to me? he had thought, his chest tightening at the memory. What if they were trying to find the identity of that man, the one no one dared to cross, by coming after me through her?
Though the doubt was cleared at that time as he had started Acting on that spark of doubt, he had ordered a thorough investigation, leaving no stone unturned. He had Namon, Mr. Abbott, and his most trusted security team dig into every lead, every known enemy of they could doubt on. He had reviewed countless reports, double-checked every possibility, and even questioned his own staff.
But after hours of relentless scrutiny, one thing became clear— it wasn’t connected to Edward and his connection with the knight of the underworld.
Also no one from the underworld had ever approached him and Namon or their family, or even their close friends. And it was also because of that man, because of him there had been no threats, no warnings, not even a shadow of trouble.
Exhaling deeply, Edward felt a mix of relief and frustration wash over him. If it’s not them, then who? The question gnawed at him, his mind spinning with possibilities.
If whoever was behind this is not connected to the underworld then how come their teams are like those who belongs to underworld. Their motives were entirely different.. unknown but deeply personal. And Edward was determined to uncover them.
He looked back at Amelia, her face calm and untroubled in sleep. His jaw tightened as he brushed a strand of hair from her face. Whoever was after her would pay for their audacity. He would ensure they regretted ever thinking of hurting her.
Two days later...
Amelia, after finishing her classes in the hall, walked back to her bedroom. As she passed through the hallway, Lily entered the mansion carrying a white shoulder bag. Sophia, sitting in the hall, noticed her arrival.
"Where were you? You're just coming now?" Sophia asked, her voice sharp.
Lily lowered her gaze, a little flustered. "Ah, Ma'am, I had informed Aunty Maria beforehand."
Sophia gave a curt nod, unfazed. "Get coffee for Amelia. She just finished her class."
"Okay, Ma'am," Lily responded, walking past her. As she passed by Amelia's door, she cast a brief glance towards it, a sense of tension in the air. Something felt off, but she kept her thoughts to herself as she continued on her way.
The atmosphere was thick with suspicion, and an unsettling feeling lingered in the air.
Amelia was sitting in her room, feeling a mix of unease and exhaustion when her phone buzzed with a group video call from Bella and Kelly. She smiled as she saw their faces on the screen.
"Hey, Ami!" Bella greeted cheerfully.
Kelly grinned. "Looking gorgeous as always, Ami."
Amelia couldn't help but smile, their presence always brightened her mood. "Thanks, guys. How are you both?"
