It was ten to eight, and Serena was walking at a brisk pace towards her High School. I'm going to be late! she kept on thinking. I hate it when I enter a class late. People keep staring at me and it makes me uncomfortable!
It was a hot September day in Malibu, California. Serena started to feel her forehead sweating.
She walked past 'Sirens' Beach' and hurried on her way to school. Some people were already on the beach; some swimming and some on sun beds, soaking the sun.
The teenager shook her head. She could never understand how on earth people would want to sunbathe. It was no secret that Serena strongly disliked summer. She hated swimming, sunbathing, the heat - in fact; she never really went out much. Her pale skin could vouch for that.
She climbed up the steps to her school, and swept her hand over her forehead, wiping away any sweat. She glanced at her wrists, checking whether they were concealed with her large amount of bracelets and then at her upper arms, tugging the short sleeves of her baggy Black Veil Brides t-shirt down. She had it from before she lost a lot of weight, but it's a Black Veil Brides t-shirt; one cannot simply throw it away! So Serena now turned it into an off-the-shoulder t-shirt, and paired it with skinny, black jeans, ripped at the knees.
Serena entered the school hall, making her way to her locker. Already, she was feeling like an outsider.
Most of the girls had short skirts on, showing their long, tanned legs (or orange, really). Their hair styled perfectly and their faces covered in layers of make up.
Welcome to Superficialville, said a snarky voice in her mind. It made the corners of her mouth turn slightly upwards. But then they drooped down ...
"Hey! Look! Freckles face is here!" said a skinny boy with an evil grin on his face. It was Daniel.
Oh no! Please don't start picking on me already, please don't, she pleaded in her head.
"Oh sweetie," Daniel's friend, Ylenia chimed in, "don't you look pale. You're like a corpse. Didn't go out much this summer, aye? Well, you have no friends, and you were probably too busy listening to those emo bands you worship, and slitting your wrists." Serena's face flushed. Did they know? ...
She slammed the door of her locker shut after she piled in a few books and some extra stationary, and she tried to get away from those who were throwing words at her which felt worse than being stabbed.
But Daniel grabbed her arm roughly and turned her around to face the two of them. Wasn't anyone around kind enough to make them stop? But as classes had already started, there were a few people around. And they didn't care. They were just laughing, or pretending not to hear anything. Inside, they were probably glad that that girl wasn't them.
"Oh look! She's wearing a t-shirt of those Satan worshippers," Daniel taunted, while his side-kick laughed sickly. Serena tried to grasp free, but he had an astonishingly strong grip for a skinny and not-so-tall person. "So, do you like go worship Satan on weekends?" He looked at Ylenia (who looked like a roasted lobster, so much for a nice tan), "I heard people at these Satan worshipping events have sex with each other. Is this true, emo girl?"
Tears were forming in Serena's eyes. "Fuck off!" she yelled at both of them, breaking away from Daniel's harsh grip, an unusual strong force coming over her.
She clumsily ran to the bathroom, feeling stupid and helpless.
"You ugly, emo, fag! Go kill yourself," Daniel shouted after her. Ylenia's sick laughter could be heard behind her. "GO KILL YOURSELF!"
Serena burst into tears just before pushing open the women's bathroom door, and with her luck; whom did she find there? Another one from the devil's clan; Mariah, friend of Daniel and Ylenia.
