The cool night air embraced you as you stepped out onto the balcony, the sounds of the ocean just faintly audible over the muffled conversations coming from inside.
The tension of the dinner table was left behind as the two of you leaned against the railing, staring out at the moonlit waves.
"Well..."
you began, breaking the silence."That actually went a lot better than
I thought it would. No one threw a drink. No one stormed off—
That's progress, right?"
You glanced at him with a sly smile."Yeah, if you ignore the part where our parents dissected every single detail of our relationship like they were writing a thesis."
Daisuke huffed out a laugh, running a hand through his hair."Could've been worse,
they didn't bring up your college days."
You laughed softly, your shoulder brushing his as you turned to face him."Don't remind me,"
he groaned, covering his face
with one hand. The two of you shared a quiet laugh, the ease of the moment slowly replacing the stress of the evening.
But the longer you stood there, the more you felt the weight of his gaze on you, lingering in a way that sent shivers down your spine. The silence that followed was heavy, charged. You could feel the heat radiating from him, the way his body was just inches from yours.
His scent was intoxicating, and you had to bite your lip to keep from leaning in closer."Daisuke,"
you said softly, turning to face him fully. "You're staring again."He didn't even try to deny it.
"Can you blame me?"
His eyes dropped to your lips, lingering there for a moment before snapping back up to meet your gaze. You swallowed hard, the weight of his attention making it hard to think straight.
"You're not so bad yourself, you know," you said, your voice quieter than you intended."Not so bad?"
he repeated, raising an eyebrow.
"I've been sweating through this damn button-up all night for you, and all I get is 'not so bad'?""Fine. You look good. Better than good. Happy?"
You laughed, the sound breaking some of the tension."Not yet,"
he said, his hand finally moving to touch yours, his fingers brushing over yours with deliberate slowness.
"But I'm getting there."The air between you felt impossibly thick as his hand slid over yours, his thumb tracing circles against your skin. You felt your pulse quicken, your breath catching in your throat as you stared up at him.
"Daisuke,"
you said again, your voice barely more than a whisper."Yeah?"
he asked, his voice equally low, his gaze never leaving yours. You didn't know what you wanted to say, didn't even know if you could find the words. Instead, you leaned in, your lips brushing against his in a kiss that was soft at first, hesitant, but quickly deepened as his hand moved to your waist, pulling you closer.
The kiss was slow, deliberate, filled with all the tension that had been building between you all evening.
His other hand came up to cup your cheek, tilting your head to deepen the kiss as his thumb brushed against your jaw.
