LOVELY

The beauty descended gracefully down the stair case, her lovely, silk gown barley a breath of weight on her shoulders. Carefully placing her feet on the steps before her, head held high, she came upon the crowd. Not one single eye was not on her, nor could they look away. She was beautiful, looking more delicate and lovelier than a rose. Her gown plunged far more than need be to fit her precious wings. The red of them offset her wispy white gown, dragging slightly on the floor. Butterfly shaped red tinting the clear part of them and deep and dark where her veins made themselves prominent. The breeze of their slight flutter brushed though her deep brown hair. When she reached the landing, she turned and looked up.

My best friend and half-sister looked up at me, on the top of the stair.

Not one had noticed me, yet. I smiled at her, and she smiled. I saw my love for her taken in and returned mutually.

I winked at her and swiftly turned and ran back into my room.

What are you doing?

My sister and I could hear each other's thoughts as if we were thinking them ourselves.

I don't look good yet.

Liar, you would look good at this party even if you were in your sweats.

Okay that may be true, but just help me I want to make a big entrance.

You're the host; you're supposed to be down here before they even show up.

Fine, done let them into the ball room until I tell you to.

Fine.

I rushed down the hall and to the left. I was now in another hall that looked over the ballroom.

I picked up the skirts of my silk gown, matching my sisters, except that it was in a deep purple and propped my foot on the sill. I launched myself in the air, a menacing move, had I not had wings. I shot forward, spun, and firmly planted my butt on the adequate seat of the giant chandelier hanging in the ballroom. The inflexible thing didn't even swing as I moved around in my seat so that I was leaning against a wooden bar with my legs crossed neatly.

Okay, let them in.

Sure.

The big doors to the entrance hall opened and hundreds of people piled in murmuring quietly to each other.

"Ehem," I spoke softly.

The enhanced hearing of the people picking up my voice alerted them to my presence.

The people who looked up gasped, causing people around them to look up as well.

"Hello," my voice carried over the crowd.

My sister rolled her eyes at me, picking up one of the gnarled napkins on the tables and messing with it.

You can never be boring can you?

Nope.

"I am happy to welcome you to our first winter ball. If you don't know how to dance, and by whom all of you are you better, you won't have a very good time." My voice sang out as I slipped off my seat and walked down my invisible spiral stairs. "So let's get started."

At that moment the music rang out and people started to talk among themselves.

This was the fifth ball my sister and I had put together since inheriting our money when our step dad, my second her first, died. They had been very advantageous to us and our fame had incited the whole of the modern day New York, in 2309 that is.
