__________________________The butler lead me up several flights of stairs and down different corridors until he stopped at a door that looked identical to the rest that lined the hall. I grew anxious at the prospect of having to navigate my way back.
He opened the door for me and stepped aside.
"Your chambers, your majesty. When you are ready, just pull the rope next to your bed and I will come and fetch you." And with that he bowed and walked off the way we came.
I watched him disappear around the corner. Was he always so abrupt?
I sighed frustratedly before turning back to the open door. Hesitantly I poked my head around to take in the room.
It was magnificent to say the least. Even my bedroom at home couldn't compare to the luxurious room I now stood in.
A king sized bed lounged toward the back of the spacious room. Silky curtains hung around the head of it, cascading like a waterfall over the bed.
The floor was carpeted in the softest looking velvet I had ever seen. It was
a nice shade of champagne red, coordinating nicely with the burgundy walls. There was another door to the side of the room, directly across from a large oak wardrobe.Crossing the room I opened the door, peering inside. A luxurious looking tub was set into the floor, various colored bottles lined the side, holding what I supposed to be different kinds of soap.
This was by far the nicest bathroom I had ever set foot in.
I shook my head, realizing that I was supposed to be getting ready for a ball.
Right. I thought. Dresses. Wardrobe.
Retreating back into the room, I opened the doors of the wardrobe to reveal a dozen different dresses of all colors and styles. I brushed my hand along the silky dresses, still in awe of how magnificent this all was.
A luxurious room, a ball just for me, a dozen dresses, a rather handsome host. This night was really turning into something special.
Grinning I selected a silky black gown, holding it up for size. It should do rather well. It looked to be about the right size. Which was slightly unnerving. Hurrying over to the heavenly bathroom, I slipped into the dress.
Emerging from behind the door, I checked my reflection in the floor-length mirror. The dress was a little loose, but nothing a few pins couldn't fix.
The skirt wasn't too large, and was made of a silky fabric, making it light and very comfortable. The gown was sleeveless yet still very elegant.
I looked back in the wardrobe to see if there were any accessories when I spotted a shelf just above the hanging dresses. On the shelf sat several masks. Each a different color to correspond with one of the dresses. I reached up to grab the black one. The feathers fanned out at the top and it was sprinkled with silver glitter around the eyes.
I looked back into the mirror, holding the mask up to my face. You almost wouldn't be able to recognize me beneath it.
After fixing my hair and doing my best to adjust the dress, I turned to look at the gilded rope hanging next to the bed. The butler had said to pull it when I was finished.
Wrapping my hands around the golden tassel, I inhaled before pulling down. Nothing happened. I looked confusedly around, trying to see if anything had changed. Was I supposed to pull harder? Was it supposed to make a noise? Back home I simply had a tiny bell for calling the maids. I wasn't used to having this system of beckoning servants.
