The man's screams echoed off the concrete walls, but I didn’t stop. He was a liability now, and I had no tolerance for that. His face, swollen and battered, twisted in pain as I forced him to his knees.

“Thought you could steal from me, huh?” I hissed, lifting him by his collar. His eyes widened, and I could smell his fear.

“I-I didn't me-ean t-to p-ple-ease,” he stammered, blood dribbling from his mouth.

I flicked the blade in my hand, its edge catching the dim light. “You mean to do a lot of things. But you didn’t think about the consequences.”

The fear in his eyes deepened as he realized what was coming. It didn’t matter. He was already dead.

I moved swiftly, the knife slicing across his throat in one clean stroke. He gasped, his body twitching, then fell limp.

Arjun stepped from the shadows, his expression unreadable. He glanced at the body with disinterest. “It’s done, then?”

I wiped my blade clean and nodded. “Send the cleanup team.”

“There’s an event tonight,” Arjun said, shifting the conversation.

“I don’t care about your events” I growled.

“Not about me. There are people there you should meet,” Arjun insisted, his tone shifting to something more serious.

I didn’t reply, too lost in the dark thoughts swirling in my mind. The world was full of lies, and it was up to me to maintain control. But tonight, there was something, different in the air.

I stood in front of the full-length mirror in my mansion, adjusting the hem of my black sleek dress. The deep midnight shade clung to my curves, the fabric smooth against my skin as I admired the way it looked. Everything had to be perfect. I didn’t need to impress anyone, but this night was different. It had to be different.
