"Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" Tyler asked as he held onto me.
After weeks of dreading this day to come, Tyler was leaving Boston and heading to Dallas. As much as I wanted to hop on the plane with him, I knew I couldn't.
"I can't and you know that," I replied, my voice hoarse from the amount of crying I'd done the night before. "College comes first for me."
Carter, my step brother, cleared his throat as he entered the room. "Tyler, we have to go, you can't miss your flight."
Tyler sighed. "I'm gonna miss you so much." He gave me one more kiss before pulling away and followed my brother out the door.
I held back the tears and walked back upstairs where I had been before Tyler arrived. My best friend, Jenna, was still sitting in the same spot she been when I left. She looked up at me and stood up. "You didn't tell him did you?"
I shook my head. "I don't want to make this any harder."
**
"Happy birthday Mason!" Jenna sang as she and Carter, carried in a huge box with a bow on top. My son squealed at the sight of the present.
I watched as Carter helped Mason unwrap the box. Jenna came over and gave me a hug. "How're you feeling?"
I sighed. "Fine, I guess. Mason wouldn't stop crying last night so I'm only running on four hours of sleep."
Jenna looked down at her watch. "Go take a nap, Carter and I will watch Mason. We'll wake you up when its time to go."
I thanked her and retreated to my bedroom, practically throwing myself on the bed as soon as I closed the door. I got comfortable and closed my eyes. It didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
**
"(Y/N), its time to go!"
I groaned but got out of bed anyway. I walked over to my closet and pulled out my Bergeron jersey and a pair of jeans. I changed out of my sweatpants and stained t-shirt and then ran a brush through my hair before putting it up in a bun.
I grabbed a pair of converse and walked out to the living room to make sure Mason was ready to go. I smiled as I realized what Carter and Jenna had gotten him had been a box full of Bruins merch.
"Look Mommy!" Mason waddled over and wrapped his hand around two of my fingers, pulling me along. He stopped at a hockey stick and a pair of skates.
"Is uncle Carter going to teach you to skate?" I asked, turning around to face my brother.
Carter nodded. "We're going to an ice rink tomorrow, he's gonna learn to skate before he fully knows how to talk."
"If we want to make it to the game on time, we need to go now!" Jenna shouted, emerging from the bathroom.
I picked up my son and grabbed my purse, following Jenna out. "Come on Mason, it's hockey time."
**
I walked into the arena and felt my heart sink to the floor as I saw the sea of green that could only mean one thing, Dallas was playing."Jenna, why didn't you me Boston was playing Dallas?" I asked through gritted teeth.
"Because if I told you, you wouldn't have come."
"Yeah, obviously." I followed Carter up to our seats and sighed, we were the second row from glass. "You should have told me."
She nodded. "You're right, I should have, but you also should have told Tyler about Mason."
