Chapter 14: At Gunpoint

"Make haste now, her royal highness will reach the castle any minute now. The queen clearly stated that all preparations of the princess's room must be done before their arrival, do you want to hear an earful from her?"

The attendants were mostly afraid of the queen's temper. She is gentle and soft spoken but when she's mad it is as if she becomes a whole different person.

"Minnie and Daisy, please bear in mind that you will be the Princess Anntonia's personal attendants from now on, I will not tolerate any mistakes from both of you. You are not allowed to spill any details about the Princess to anyone, including your family. Do I make myself clear?"

To this day, the appearance of the princess is not known by the public to ensure her safety. Her crowning ceremony will be when she turns twenty-five years old, she just turned twenty-four last month. As a part of tradition, she is set to stand before everybody as the crown princess.

The security team did a final sweep inside her highness' room to check for any illegal surveillance that might have been missed during the inspection.

As there are external entities trying to sabotage the reigning monarch, thorough inspection and recruitment of employees are the top priorities of the monarch's security.

It is not surprising if their enemies have already heard of the return of the princess brought about by the power struggle between the King and his younger brother.

Prince Mattheos' influence over the palace staff is not to be underestimated. It is not actually known as to where their loyalties lie.

As a precaution, all of Princess Antonnia's attendants were handpicked by Sebastian himself after running background checks on everyone. When it comes down to motive, the Princess is most likely the target.

"Sir, they've arrived." Sebastian nodded at his subordinate and made eye contact with the inspection team. The room is all clear.

"Everyone, back to your positions."

Queen Vera glanced at her daughter who dared not speak since they boarded the jet. She knows where her mind is and sighs knowing she can't give her what she wants, not this time.

"Anntonia dear, do you want to tour around the castle? There has been a few renovations made and you must see the maze garden." She tried to be cheerful but her daughter remained passive.

The King was quietly watching the two women and it hurts him to see her wife getting sad. He can't blame her daughter though, he broke his promise after all.

He balled his fists in anger as he thinks about the reason why it led to this. It is his scheming brother's fault. All this time, he thought he has his full support but he betrayed him. Questioning his rule and attacking him when he least expected it.

And now his daughter sees him as a liar and a tyrant, forcing her to come home.

The car came to a full stop as they await the castle gates to open. Reporters and paparazzis who caught wind of their arrival flocked outside the gates.

He wonders what the headlines for tomorrow's news would be.

Anntonia shifted in her seat because of the unwanted attention. This is why she hates coming back here, she ain't living a fairytale but a nightmare.

Sometimes she wishes she was born into a normal family. Not this life where she has no freedom at all.
Well, she did but it was short-lived. In fact, Thailand was more of her home than Denmark. Living within the castle walls is not where she wants to be.

As she roams her eyes outside, she saw the butlers, the maids, and their security lined up to greet them. Overdramatic is the perfect word for this scene.
