Upon Curly's request, you and Daisuke arrived at work an hour earlier than usual.
The parking lot was empty for the early hour, you both exchanged glances before heading inside.

"What's going on?"
Daisuke asked, his tone skeptical.

The moment you stepped through the door, chaos greeted you.
Employees were rushing around, holding stacks of papers, adjusting schedules on the fly, and whispering in hushed but frantic tones.

The tension in the air was palpable.

"Why is everyone running around like chickens with their goddamn heads cut off?!"
you exclaimed.

Daisuke's eyes darted to the wall calendar near the breakroom.
His expression twisted into a mix of disbelief and frustration as he dramatically pointed at the circled date.

"That's why!"
he groaned.
"BRING YOUR CHILD TO WORK DAY!"

"That explains why they're childproofing everything."
You point out.

Daisuke sighed, rubbing
the back of his neck.

"Let's just sneak back out before anyone notices we're here."
He reached for your hand, his voice dropping into an exaggerated whisper. "Come on, if we're quick, we can—"

"Nuh-uh! You two!"
Curly's voice rang out, and you froze mid-step like a pair of kids caught skipping class.
You turned slowly to see him striding toward you with a clipboard in hand and his ever-present grin.

"Don't even think about it,"
Curly said, wagging a playful finger at you both.
"Follow me. There's something special I need you two for today."

Groaning internally, you reluctantly followed him down the hallway.
The usual chatter of the office was replaced with tense conversations, and you noticed clusters of employees gathered around monitors, typing furiously.

Curly then begin gesturing for you to sit. His desk was unnervingly tidy,
but your eyes caught on a thick stack of folders labeled
"Special Assignments"
in bold red letters.

"I need a favor,"
Curly began, his usual cheery tone carrying a hint of urgency as he looked between you and Daisuke.

"And trust me, I'll pay you two back for this. But something came up—urgent calls, last-minute stuff—and it looks like I'll be out today."

"Okay..."
you said cautiously, already sensing where this was going.

"I was wondering,"
Curly continued, rubbing the back of his neck,
"if you two could keep an eye on my son, Maxton. Or Max, for short.
He's a good kid, really!"

Daisuke froze, his eyes widening as if someone had just thrown a live grenade into the room.

"EH?! You want us—to babysit your kid?"
he exclaimed, leaning forward in disbelief.

"Chill, it's not that bad,
I'm sure we can handle it."
you said, nudging your boyfriend with your elbow, though you couldn't help the slight apprehension creeping into your voice.

Daisuke stared at you like you'd just volunteered him for a high-stakes heist. "Oh, yeah? Last time I checked, neither of us had babysitter in our job descriptions."
