"Hurry up Rylie! They're coming!" I called out to my little sister, who was only 7. But with them so close behind us we would get caught. And she was struggling to keep up.
"I'm trying, but I ca... AAHHH!" as Rylie squealed. I had to turn back, but only to see her balling over in pain on the dark grey sidewalk from the arrow that impaled her drenched black jeans. I couldn't lose anyone else, she's all I have left. I bolted back as fast as I could. We've been running for days now; tonight will not be our last night. I knew the risk, but I still did it anyway. Rylie was my sister, I couldn't leave her behind no matter what the cost was. I scooped her up onto my shoulder, and ran as fast as I could with a little girl on my back. Glancing to the right I saw an abandoned hotel.
"Rylie whatever you do, do NOT tell mom and dad about this when they come home. Ok?" I announced to Rylie.
"What do you mean Meg, AAOOWW! Oh no, no," affirmed Rylie as she squealed in pain.
"We have to, there is no where else to hide. I don't care what mom and dad will say we have to go in there."
"Bu-"
"No buts."
"Fine."
So I firmly planted my foot into the ground and spun. Speeding into the hotel I felt the adrenaline surging through my body. I couldn't let her die not now, not ever. But the only way to stop them was to kill their leader, though that's nearly impossible. I set Rylie down as gently as I could, but she landed roughly on the ground..
"Ow, Ow Ow, Megan that hurt," croaked Rylie.
"I'm sorry. We really need to get you fixed up," I firmly responded.
"But what about you?"
I had completely forgotten about my arm; I glanced down to see my blue hoodie was encased in blood. As I pulled up my sleeve I saw the claw mark on my arm had gotten worse. The rim of my wound was filled with pus; the pus was a pukey green, and even though it was flowing out slowly, it was still coming out. The wound itself was even more horrifying; the inside was a light pink yet very red, the pus and blood was running down my arm.
"I'll deal with it later. We need to deal with your leg first."
"No your arm is worse, my leg can wait," fretted Rylie.
" You can't run, that is all we are doing right now." I kneeled down and tore some old ragged cloth from one of the curtains and slowly but effectively wrapped the cloth around her leg, tightening it every so often.
"Ow, Meg what are you doing?" groaned Rylie.
"Wrapping your leg-- what do you think?"
"Oh."
CREEK!
"Shhh," I whispered.
"Here little girlies...I'm here now, no need to hide. I won't hurt you," cooed an old cold, but familiar voice.
"Come on, this way," I said quietly to Rylie. We crept closer and closer to the door as silently as we could. Carefully I opened the door. SSQQUUUEEAAKK! It couldn't have squeaked any louder. The tall black figure quickly turned towards us. His face had scars all over. His eyes were as black as night; his complexion was as white as snow. For an evil guy, his face was full of warmth and compassion. This was the man that separated me from my family.
"I found you," purred the man.
"What do you want?!" I remarked.
"Only to ask you a few questions. As I said earlier, I'm not going to hurt you."
"Fine. But first I have a few to ask myself. Who are you? Why do you need to ask us questions?"
"I am Bruno. My boss demanded I ask you these questions; I have no idea about the backstory," Bruno concluded blankly.
"All right. Ask." I approved.
"Thank you." Bruno suddenly said, "wolves catch them!"
"What's going on? Megan!!!" gasped Rylie.
The only thing I remembered was the was wolves raging into the room and then I went blank.

Feeling a bitter cold I opened my eyes; the dim light burned my eyes to a crisp. Slowly my sight returned, blinking the darkness away I saw a rust silver lining, no it wasn't a lining--it was cell doors!
"Megan, where are we?" croaked Rylie.
"I have no idea Ry."
"Oh."
Sitting up I felt surge of pain through my arm. I looked down, only to see my arm as swollen as a tree trunk. Once I had my sleeve up, my wound was even worse than I had thought. The pus was spewing out a lot faster than it had before. The blood was getting crusty, there was no way it could have gotten infected that fast. I looked around to see where we were, but I had no idea outside of the bars that restrained us there was a cauldron that had some sort of boiling liquid in it. Beside that was a desk that had pictures of our whole family, some of just me, some just of my dad, some just of my mom, and a few of just Rylie.
"Meg, your arm, what happened?" Rylie asked concerned, breaking the silence.
"Oh, I think it got infected." I looked down but it was deeper than it was before. How was that possible? But if we were locked in a cell and my cut was deeper that must mean...
"Rylie! Don't move a muscle. Ok?"
"Ok. Why?"
"Because, we got captured. By that man... show yourself YOU DIRTY OLD HAG!!!"
"Who me?" purred an old familiar voice.
"Yes, of course you!" I sneered.
"That's no way to talk to your elders. I see you're awake as well."
I turned away and ignored the man. Doing so I tried to fix up my arm but that didn't go so well. The scab got torn off as I tried to put a bandage on. How could so much blood come out of such a little wound. Well, it's not that big, but still.
"Meg, who is this man? What does he want with us?" questioned Rylie.
"He is NOT a man-- he is a monster; you know how I told you mom and dad went on a trip together. That was a lie so you wouldn't run away and try to find them. This THING took them away from us!" I jeered.
"No that's not true, no NO! Why would you lie to me like that!? WHY tell me, why?" cried Rylie.
"I had to, I couldn't lose you; you would have left me. Mom said to me before she left to give this to you." I pulled out a small brown box with an engraving that said, "to my dear Rylie". Handing it to Rylie, I almost started crying. Rylie opened it with care and her eyes were almost as large as a peanut. She pulled out a small necklace. It had a navy blue rhinestone that glimmered in the small ray of light.
"It's beautiful."
"Mom and I thought you would love it."
"How touching, Bruno chided. But you "answered" my question. So I can tell you where you parents are. But what fun would that be for me, I get to extract the life out of you till you're ready to talk."
"You haven't even asked any questions," I snapped.
"Ok. What is your family's secret, child?"
"Our family has no secrets."
"According to your father, yes you do."
I tried to search into the deepest parts of my memories, but my mind was blank. Deeper and deeper I went, the more painful it got, then I found what I was looking for.
"No we don't."
"Spit it out or HE dies!" Bruno pulled up a small tablet and showed my father and mother in chains, unconscious.
"LET THEM GO!!" I screamed.
"Ah, ah, secret first."
"Fine, if I tell you, do you promise to let me and every one go."
"Yes."
"I want your word."
"Ok, you have my word."
"Good; our families secret is-" I never finished because I turned into a wolf at that very moment. I could hear my father's words running through my mind. "Remember you can be whatever you want." Back then I had no idea what he meant but now the answer was running through my veins. The adrenaline was unstoppable as I roared through the bars. I pounced onto Bruno, digging my claws into his chest.
"What are you doing?" croaked Bruno.
"You wanted to know our families secret, well LOOK closely as this will be the last thing you'll ever see! Monster," I growled.
" Meg! What are you doing?" squealed Rylie.
I looked back and saw a horrified look on Rylie's face. Instantly I knew that Bruno wasn't the monster, I was. With all the guilt inside I turned back into a normal human. Every part of my body wanted to quickly devour Bruno, but the look in Rylie's eyes that I shouldn't stopped me.
"No one attacks me and gets away with it!" jeered Bruno.
I quickly stomped my foot onto his head and knocked him out.
"We need to go and find mom and dad," I confirmed.
"O-ok," chittered Rylie.
________________________________________________________
We made our way down a dark and bitter cold hallway. I felt like I needed to talk to Rylie about what had happened but that might involve getting into a fight, and I don't need that right now. I couldn't imagine what might be running through her head. She thought I was a monster; I knew it I just did. The look in her eyes when I looked back, it was a look of pure terror.
"Meg. What happened back there, I mean you were yourself then all of a sudden you became a-a wolf. What did you do?" pondered Rylie releasing the tension in the air.
"Well you know how dad always said 'you can be whatever you want.' Well it was true."
"Oh can I do that too?"
"Well if you dig deep enough maybe. But be careful, it drains your energy a lot."
"Oh."
We continued down and we finally came to a dead end but thankfully there was a door that was leading down, down, down. I wasn't too happy about that; underground was the place I most dreaded. But it looked like that dungeon that Bruno was keeping our parents. I guess getting your parents back means going out of your comfort zone.
"Ok Ry, let's go."
I went down first, almost tripping down the whole staircase, but I didn't. My senses were on edge; anything could jump out any moment. At last we reached the bottom; it was large dome- shaped room with many different torcher type things, this was the place.
Right in the middle of the room were our parents unconscious but still breathing; they were still just barely breathing. Rushing towards them I came to dead stop, something was here, something was watching us. I felt a slight cold breeze upon my neck. Spinning around I quickly turned into a bobcat and swiped, but nothing was there. Suddenly I heard a scream it was Rylie's, I looked up to see her with a knife stabbed half in her bad leg.
"Megan!!" screeched Rylie.
Witch to do, who should I save. Dashing back as a human I scooped up Rylie and turned back turning into a cheetah. Bolting like a cheetah (because I was a cheetah) we made it to our parents in no time. By the time we made it to our parents they were slowly waking up and I was a human.
"Mom! Dad!" Rylie shouted trying to climb off my back. But had a struggle with her leg.
"What are you two doing here you... DUCK!" bleated dad.
Suddenly out of the blue, a dagar sped through the air, nearly hitting my a dad in the head.
"Well well well, what do we have here. The whole family I see. Oh and what's this? A little girl who's about to die!" boggled the evil Bruno.
Bruno leaped with such intensity towards Rylie, who managed to get off my back without me noticing. Bruno made it almost impossible to step in front of so he wouldn't hurt Rylie. Some how he managed to steer around me, he hit Rylie with such force that anything in it's way would have been crushed and that thing that was in his way was Rylie.
"NNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!" I wailed. I rushed towards her as fast as I could catching her in the nick of time so she wouldn't fall to the ground. She still looked like an angel even in her worst state.
How could he have been so cruel, he was the monster he was my target.
"Ry don't die on me now I told myself that I would always protect you. I said to mom and dad that you would be around till I die. You hav-" my voice catching " You have to stay you're the only one that matters to me, my whole life was wrapped around protecting you. You can't leave me, you can't!"
Now my tears were running like a waterfall; nothing could stop them. They looked like little droplets of silver. My tears ran down my whole face then dropped to the ground.
"Meg, you couldn't have been a better sister. You did a great job protecting me, I never would have ask- cough cough- asked for anyone else. I love y-" she never finished that sentence.
"Ry? RYLIE!!" I screamed in sorrow. "You monster you will pay for your crimes!"
"Who me?" Bruno said innocently.
"Yes you; who else would it be!"
"Very well then it'll be a duel: the winner gets their lives and, also get to leave in peace. Sound good to you?"
I pulled out a knife from the ground and charged, the rage was helping me along. Nothing could beat me like this; I was the supreme person in this fight. No one will defeat me, I will avenge Rylie no matter the cost. This cruel man will be dead in a matter of minutes. Reaching him I raised my knife and swiped but nothing was there, just an empty air socket where the body of Bruno was. I felt the same breeze across my neck again. Quickly turning into a night owl I swooped upwards and dropped the knife, thankfully Bruno didn't notice until the last second and bareilly got away. The knife pierced his arm and he bellowed in pain.
"You dirty scumbag, you'll pay!" bellowed Bruno.
"Hoo? Me?" I screeched as I turned into a puma pouncing onto Bruno with my claws extended.
My claws dug into his chest like they would have earlier but got stopped by Rylie. It felt good to get revenge, but something still felt wrong about doing this. Rylie was dead so this man shall too.
"Ahhhhhhkkk!" Coughed Bruno.
"Looks like I win."
My claws dug deeper until his body went limp. Standing up as a human I walked over to my parents who had a horrified look on their faces. I undid their shackles and helped them down. Mom was feeling her wrists, they looked like they had been cut open.
"Meg." Said a trembling voice. "What did you do? What happened?"
"Dad I followed my instincts, that's what you always told me to do right?"
"I think you took it a little too far honey, this man was only doing his job." Mom put in.
"He got what he deserved, he's a murderer he, he killed Rylie he couldn't care less about his own troops, you guys got torchered, this man is ruthless, the world could do with one less man like him."
"That's not true; he is still a living being." Dad said.
"You don't understand like I do; she was my life-- that was my purpose, to protect her."
"If that's what you think that's fine; we can't take back the past," ended dad.
After that nothing was the same in our household; I spent most of my time in my room moping around. The only time I came out was for school and meals. Nothing could refill the emptiness that filled my heart but, that was my story the sacrifices I took for her meant nothing because she is now gone forever.
