━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 𝖠𝖫𝖤𝖷 𝖵𝖠𝖫𝖤WE WERE STILL stuck in this damn living room. For some reason, my grandma had suddenly taken a deep interest in my friends, asking them all sorts of questions like she was conducting a full-blown investigation. Why now?
Meanwhile, the clock was ticking, and I had work in two hours. I'm going to die.
"Grandma," I groaned, slumping back into the couch. She knew I was over this conversation, and judging by Layla's subtle fidgeting and Ethan's exaggerated sighs, they were just as done as I was.
But my grandma? Oh, she was thriving.
"Alex, let her talk," my mom said, standing next to the couch where my grandma was comfortably seated.
Ethan snorted but quickly covered it with a fake cough.
I shot him a glare, but he just smirked, clearly enjoying my misery. Layla, on the other hand, gave me a small, knowing smile—amused but at least sympathetic.
"Fine," I muttered, crossing my arms.
My grandma turned her attention back to my friends, her eyes lighting up. "So, Layla... i heard you have a boyfriend."
Layla blinked, caught off guard. "Uh—"
Oh shit. Don't tell me my mom told that lie to her. I mean, my mom didn't know I was lying, but still.
Layla hesitated for a moment, her eyes darting between my grandma and me. "Uh—yeah," she finally said, forcing a smile.
I internally sighed in relief. Thank God she caught on.
My grandma clapped her hands together, beaming. "Oh, that's wonderful! Tell me about him. What does he do? How did you meet?"
Layla shot me a quick glance, and I could see the panic behind her eyes. I had just thrown her into this mess, and now she had to make something up on the spot.
"Oh, um... he's really sweet," Layla started, clearly stalling. "And, uh, we met through—uh—Ethan!"
Ethan, who had been zoning out, suddenly snapped his head up. "Huh? What?"
Layla nodded quickly, committing to the story. "Yeah! Ethan introduced us."
Ethan squinted at her, clearly confused, but before he could say anything that would ruin it, I shot him a glare. Play along.
"Oh, yeah! Of course, I did," Ethan said, catching on. "Great guy. Top-tier dude."
Layla nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, exactly!"
My grandma sighed happily. "That's lovely. Maybe one day you'll bring him over."
Layla laughed nervously. "Yeah... maybe."
