This new heartbeat was startling but yet not terrifying as the other new innovations had been. I recognized that my hearing was returning. My feelings were mixed with relief and anger. Relief, that Im now had all five senses available, but yet anger towards the doctors who had drugged me and apparently taken advantage of me. It was then that some of the confusion began to click together forming a hypothesis of what might've happened to me. The doctors had redone my entire body. Replacing everything down to my own beating heart. The reason? Unknown.
I focused calmly in on my hearing, trying to discover any clues to my questions. I immediately picked up on people outside the door talking. As I closed in on, eavesdropping, I began to comprehend the sling of words.
"I don't care, we cannot risk the chance of people discovering us. We must drop her into the desert, the place she came from," I realized the voice was James, who must be the leader of this place.
"That will surely kill her," I now heard Veronica, "You're willing to do this to a child James?"
"To save the rest of us?" he responded, voice bubbling with false compassion, "I am,"
I gulped. I knew without second guessing that they were discussing what to do with me. Something wrong must've happened for this to happen.
Interrupting my thoughts, James and Veronica entered the room, quickly shutting the door behind them.
"Before you leave me to die, you better explain the reasoning or so help me I will-"
"You can hear," James stated, slightly surprised.
"Yes, yes I can," I answered with confusion, "And why wouldn't I?"
"You have not yet failed to shock me Miss Tamer, but that is beside the point, the reasoning is sad but simple. Our enemy had cameras set up to find any survivors exiting the school. You were caught on camera, they now are looking for you. I am sorry, but I cannot risk the lives of many to save one," he finished out
"So you're only solution is to leave to die?" I asked as calmly as possible, "Veronica? You agree?"
"This is not my place to voice my own opinion," Veronica curtly said
I was exasperated with this place already.
"Then why did you change everything about my body?" I asked, pointing out an option
"We thought that with our technology they may not recognize you, but the chances are too slim to take," James said clearly ready to move on with life, "We cannot wait any longer, you must come with us now Miss Tamer,"
I sighed, maybe it would be better to give up. Either way, I followed them out to my death...
We reached the room that I first came in as we they said their short goodbyes.
"You will have about five minutes to get as far away as possible from the hidden entry before they will surely spot you. Their torturing techniques are unknown to us, but without doubt it will be painful. You shall not survive," Veronica informed me in a hushed, fast pace tone.
I nodded without speaking, knowing that if I tried it would come out strained.
She then patted my back awkwardly and lead me to the door.
"It has been a pleasure to have you visit,"James finished before opening the door and quickly shoved me out. I kept my balance and before I had even fully recovered I hit the ground running to nowhere, acting like I had a destination.
This sucks, I knew it did, but there was nothing I could do about it. I kept up with the fast pace I had started out with for a while until I slowed to a stop. To continue with the act, I licked my finger and put it in the air to sense where the wind was blowing. I then continued in that direction.
Before long, I heard the promised death coming from the left. I blinked twice before slowly rotating myself to look at my enemy. It was a giant jet plane. I shaded my eyes with my hands so that I could meet the eyes of my opponent. It was a young man who sat pilot. He sent me a crude sly smile and brought the machinery to a halt on the dried out ground.
He swiftly climbed out, obviously alone and ran towards me, gun in hand.
"I want your hands in the air," he shouted out at me
I responded by flinging my hands in the air as if in a trance.
"Get on the ground," he continued, clearly enjoying his job.
"Isn't it the other way around?" I cleverly questioned
He looked confused but kept his gun aimed.
"I mean, honestly, if your going to kill me or take me to headquarters you might as well do it right," I continued, "I believe it's get on the ground THEN put your hands in the air, it provides comfort for the prisoner," I answered myself.
"Don't question my ways child of the worthless," he snapped back.
"If I run, will you shoot me now?" I asked him
"Yes, and if you don't shut up, I will be glad to shoot you right here, right now,"
I clamped my mouth shut but didn't let him get ahead.  If he was trying to win me to bring to his boss , I wasn't going to let him.  I kicked my foot into the air towards his gun, carrying it up with my foot just as he shot it.  The gun shot rang loud surely alerting others nearby.  I had to make this quick.  He was stunned as I punched him in his right temple., but not knocking him to the ground.  He and I both knew he was to put up a fight.
He swung a closed fist at my gut, but I caught it and jutted it back, plunging his crooked elbow into his own stomach.  He doubled over in pain.  I took my chance and took his head and slammed it into my knee.  This time he fell over into the dust, by this point, I ran over to his gun picked it up and without second thought shot him through the left ear, killing him with a single shot.
After that moment, second thoughts of guilt and sadness washed over me...
