Twenty minutes later, the bell rang. Everyone rushed out of their seats, but Carmen stayed behind. She was mentally preparing herself for meeting up with James. She looked over to her side. James had left. He was always the first to leave class.

Gathering her things, Carmen left the English class room and walked slowly to the biology room. She didn’t even know why she was meeting James. She didn’t particularly like him or anything. Now that she thought about it, Carmen didn’t really know much about James. She knew he was a year older than her, since she had skipped a grade her freshman year. She knew that he usually hung out with a crew of rebels.

            She was here.

She took a deep breath. It came out shaky. This was ridiculous. It was just James. He probably just needed help on the assignment they had gotten a few days ago. Carmen had just started on it last night.

She entered the room and closed the door.

            The room was empty.

“Mmmm…hello, Carmen.” Carmen felt two strong arms wrap around her waist.

“I see you got my note?” Carmen was turned so that she ended up facing James.

“U-uh, yea, I did. Hi.” She whispered weakly.

He just smiled at her, saying nothing.

Carmen breathed deeply, getting lost in his cologne. Her eyes felt like they were glazed over.

“So...so um, do you need help with the um, English?” Carmen stammered. She sounded like such an idiot.

James’ mouth curved into a lopsided grin. “No, but if that is what it takes to get you to talk to me, then yes. Help me, Gorgeous.”

Carmen was totally confused. The last time she had helped James with English, they had only talked when it was necessary. She felt tears form in her eyes, despite her trying everything to stop them.

“I-is this a joke? Because it is really not funny.” Carmen swallowed and felt her throat close up. Great, she was just making it worse.
